Need help to identify print basic set and mystery map

Hello everybody,

I've decided to go through my junk again to try and identify what I've bought the last couple of months. I still have a basic book left with the first page missing so I don't know anything  :(

I've put the picture down as well and I can only see it's at least 4th print. Anybody have a clue what the exact differences are between the prints?

And I also have this mystery map. No codes anywhere, but the maps were folded with the printed side outward and have three staples along the midde like they used to be part of something...bigger. Anybody?

From just the cover of the rulebook, about all I can tell you is what you already know:  that it's somewhere between the 4th and 7th, as stated on the site:  http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/SetPages/Basic.html

I don't know if there are any differences in the rulebook between these various "printings" (even on the copyright page), most changes seem to concern the box and its contents.  :?  Anyone?

There was a change to the alignment graphic between 2d (lizard logo) and 3d (wizard) editions.  Gray Ooze and Purple Worm have illustrations in the 2d edition that the 3d edition doesn't have.  There were also some minor layout changes between the two that do not affect the text from my examination.

Hey, I didn't know about those changes. Can you tell who the artists were on those pics? Any chance you could post them here, or send them to the Acaeum to post with the Basic Set printing info linked above?

I'd like to get a copy of the Lizard Logo basic set, but they are somewhat rare and expensive.

The drawings themselves have no artist signatures that I could see with any certainty, but the purple worm picture looks to be some of DCSIII's work.

I'm not of the opinion that sending those pics will help make determination of edition easier, as the real determining factor is on the front cover, by the absence of any trademark, a "trademark applied for" notice, or a registered trademark.

That's your opinion, and that is fine with me, but I would point out that there is plenty of other information on the Acaeum that is not necessary to distinguish between editions. For example, one of the recent updates included a complete listing of all the changes that took place in the Monster and Treasure Assortment between editions. All of that information is certainly not needed to distinguish between the editions. However, it is of interest to collectors and it might even spur someone to buy the earlier editions.
