I was not aware of this forum until recently! I've been having a clearout and recently sold a collection 12 issues of The Beholder including all 4 issues of The New Beholder. Perhaps I underpriced them  :D  . The day after I shipped them, I found a copy of issue 25, which I think is the final issue I have, and is the last issue by the original creators. It goes live on eBay tonight, if anyone's interested. I plan to list some issues of Player's Association News (TSR UK) from 1981 as well, if that floats your boat...

hey guys

did anyone see not long ago, the glut of newer beholder reprints come up on ebay? didnt look the most attractive and didnt have the same look/feel as the older ones. also the prices were higher. just wondered if anyone had an idea of when they were printed OR did someone just think hey lets make some copies...?

i spoke to one of the creators some time ago. he said until the point they sold the "brand" onto another party, there was only 1 print run of each issue...and thats 1 to 25.

oh and i should add, that the sale prices were substantially lower than the original issues. think appx £15-£20 per issue

For those that might be interested in learning a little more detail about this fantastic fanzine, I'm currently working my way through my collection of The Beholder (just over half way done).  My YouTube channel is Old School Rules, handle is AZMountaineer.  Here's a link if you are interested: Old School Rules - YouTube

Also, on a very happy note, I just picked up a few 1st printings of the early issues.  Sharing a photo of #1 for contrast with the earlier photo (of a later printing).  I think this may be an actual first print run based on Mike Stoner's description, as the cover is basically just blue paper, not heavy stock at all.

Al - I'm not sure of the context for the understanding that there was only 1 print run.  I do think they did a print run and sent those out and eventually ran out of each issue, but then they definitely went back and did a re-print of issues later on.  In the monthly editorials at the beginning of each issue, they write about the status of re-prints on a pretty regular basis, and often mentioned which issues have been re-printed and which ones they hope to get to next.  You can tell when a particular issue was printed based on the cover price which was the only thing that changes (plus the color of the heavy stock cover would often change based on what was available) -- that price reflected the current price per issue based on their subscription pricing at the time the re-print was done.
