I'm thinking of dropping negative feedback on a seller. He charged me 16.00 US for shipping, but sent the item 10 days later (after I had contacted him twice to find out when the item would be shipped) in a regular manila envelope and paid 3.00 Cdn to ship it. The item took 3 days to arrive. The item was then slightly creased. I sent him a message back asking for an explanation or justification and 4 days later, still have had no response. I paid him within an hour of winning the bid.
Thoughts?

I'd send the seller a message asking for a partial refund on the shipping since the difference is huge. If that looks like it is going no where I would drop the negative. I had to do that recently for a sale within Canada where the seller wanted me to pay individual shipping per auction but then they would ship it as one package.

Alternatively, if you are determined to get your money back, you can file a Paypal dispute claiming you never received the item - you will win because it was sent through Letter Post which isn't tracked. That would at least put you back in the driver's seat when negotiating what a "reasonable handling fee" would be after you get the money back.

I think I would pull the trigger and go the Paypal dispute way immediately. You can still request the partial refund. You already gave the seller ample opportunity to respond, and I'm sure the seller will just drag it out further with you.

There's a couple choices when you file the Paypal dispute. I think one is simply to open a dispute console or something with the seller. Or you can immediately elevate it to a claim (especially since you've already emailed the person multiple times), where you can specifically request that not-as-described/partial refund.

Hmmm...not sure. It's worked out in my favor the couple times I had to do it, but that's a good question. I emailed Paypal with the "evidence" which were the photos and emails to/from the seller in my cases. Maybe the sellers I was dealing with didn't know they had wiggle room even in the face of obvious evidence, and just caved.

I'd definitely neg his ass. If he quoted you $16 for shipping and then only used $3 of it to actually ship the item then he is a thieving turd and deserves nothing less.

For this situation, I think you actually want to complain via ebay (not paypal) about excessive shipping charges. They may just give you a partial refund of the shipping.

Then you can do whatever you want in regards to feedback.

Areas of interest/knowledge: Harn, WFRP, Ars Magica, anything BRP based such as CoC, Runequest, Pendragon and all their related games

I looked for this option for my shipping dispute and it seems to be buried somewhere now. Since I haven't paid for the items, there wasn't much to start a dispute other than just a generic report an auction.

Sure. But after you've received an item, if you see an unreasonable difference in shipping charges, you can email/call ebay. The policy is left a little vague, but $3 vs. $16 would be pretty clear cut, I'd think.

Hi,

ask for some refund, and if he doesnt, then neg him.

My Missus has recently started a one-woman campaign to try and get excess ebay shipping charges returned to her.

So far, shes asked 3 times, and got 2 refunds.

She didnt neg the other one (the excess was only about $4), but she thumped his stars with thoroughly accurate information :twisted:
