Oooh... this one really bugs me because I know I have seen this piece before. Was it the front or back cover to a Dragonlance novel or supplement? Maybe it was in one of the D&D art books? Dunno... but it is now gonna irk me until I know.

I looked at this site, but didn't see any Dragonlance cover for it. For some reason it doesn't strike me as Dragonlance, but a different TSR novel. It's not one of the Endless Quest novels, so I'm not sure what else. Maybe a calendar interior?

The painting is the cover for Crimson Crystal #4, Stop That Witch!. It may be on other TSR products.

Good catch! I see now there are other Endless Quest novels beyond those first 30 or so.

Do you have memories of a red dragon swooping down upon you when you were a child? Australia must be even tougher than I thought!

The poor human does look like a teenager. His 80's hairstyle hasn't aged well.

I absolutely hate the legs on the dragon. They look way too human.

Yep, the legs (The back and fore legs both) and even the leering face and lolling tongue simply look wrong to me.
That depiction of a Dragon just does not look like what my mind tells me is a real Dragon (Real Dragon?!) :lol:

Gives me thoughts of Half Dragons from the latest Editions of AD&D, or demons perhaps.

However, at the same time, you can imagine that turning and running into the forest will do the kid no good at all.
A Dragon than has humanoid legs and arms will have little trouble running the kid down even in heavy tree growth.
And that Dragons toothpick/pig sticker of a sword he has?....
I suspect the Dragon will have fun before his snack.

That kid is freaking DOOMED....

Aaaaahhh... it's a 1e dragon, and looks like an adult, so it can't have more than 50 hp!

Painted for another product probably. Probably used for something else even and we don't know any better;)

It's amazing how the quality of Elmore's work reduced over a short period. Those early EQ covers are sweet (imo) and then it all got really super duper cartoony. It's like he started doing these high quality cartoony pieces and then he got crappier and crappier (probably quicker as well) just like real cartoons seem to have gotten worse and worse. My 02c!
