That is definitely a tragic thing to go through.  And it makes me wonder what an insurance company will do for a replacement value.

I have looked at a number of apartment insurance policies and for most of them, they have a clause for "collections" and will pay out $5K for all collections.  Which in many cases, doesn't come close to covering everything.  In order for me to get more coverage specific to my collection, I need something in writing from an appraiser.

On a side note, this means I need a good list of my collection, pictures etc.

I'm not sure if house insurance is significantly different or if some token amount is set aside for "collections".

Some people have shipped him stuff already so he has a mailing address - maybe a PO box.  If you send him a PM, he will send you the details.

Losing the dogs that way would be tough.  We chose to drive to Florida after Christmas so we could take our dog swimming in the gulf.  A 22 hour drive each way instead of a 3 hour flight.  I can't imagine the grief of losing him in a house fire.  He's also more expensive than my collecting habits.

I would help out, however, I'm skeptical and want proof that his house burnt down.  Lots of internet scams.  Don't mean to throw a negative over helping him, but I just want to be sure.

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, it has been horrible losing everything, and the dogs are the hardest loss. My modest D&D collection is a rather minor loss, but I have been heartened by the kindness and generosity of the community, over at Dragonsfoot and now here. It's true that many things are impossible to truly replace, but it has put a few smiles on my face to read your messages, and of course, opening my mail.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and by his origination date and number of posts on Dragonsfoot, I'm going to say that it's not an internet scam.

And to back it up, I'm sending him some stuff too.

Don't know where the guy lives.

A lot of us here have copies of stuff that just isn't worth the time or effort putting up on eBay because, like he says, a lot of stuff just isn't that valuable. I've got a stack of modules, basic and expert rulebooks etc. that are just sitting here collecting dust.

Now if the guy's house has just burnt down, he ain't gonna be in any position to start building he collection back up right now, but if anyone knows who this guy is, live close buy the guy, and is willing to receive mail, I'm up for shipping spare stock to get him back on his feet.

I'm not convinced.  However, I would be nice if someone could post the address to send stuff.  I have a ton of duplicated JG items.

Prufrock, I can understand your skepticism -- I've given no evidence, solicited donations, etc. I could be Nigerian for all you know. I'm reluctant to post photos of my house, but I have cleaned off my D&D shelf for cataloging purposes and I'll try to post a photo of the damaged stuff. Not only would it prove my story, but it would help in valuation, which is how this all started. If you don't trust me, I won't hold it against anyone.
