Question for all you Texas guys - How easy is it to shop and bring stuff from Mexico to the USA? I'm looking for a particular range of technical pens (drawing pens) that are produced by a Mexican company (Mecanorma) and are virtually impossible to buy in Europe. And by all accounts not available in the USA either on account of my entire stock being bought by Americans last time I had them.

I'm even considering taking my next holiday in Mexico just for the purpose of procuring stock, which is pretty sad.

Note: Just come and visit Texas and/or California and you'll see how easy it is to get across the Mexican American borders

Don't forget about Arizona and New Mexico.  Lots of ways to get over there (getting back, on the other hand...).

Yes, Arizona border towns like Nogales, AZ on the other side of Nogales, Mexico are just as easy to cross as the one in San Diego/Tijuana.

Do you know specifically which cities/towns carry what you're looking for? Unless the art supplies are available in a border town, you'd probably have to drive like a significant enough distance into Mexico that you might be very limited on car rental choices from the U.S. It might be easier to fly directly into Mexico.

Let me know if what you're looking for is in a town like Nogales, Mexico or a city a little further south, Hermosillo. I have some friends who both work in Nogales and travel to Hermosillo often enough. I'm sure we could arrange something. PM me if so.

Thanks guys. Need to save up for a holiday or employ me a spanish speeking import agent to liaise and work out a deal direct. Ho-hum. Lots to think about there.

Are you kidding me!!  I would jump at the chance.  Hmmm, let me see...  Fly in to Havana, spend four or five days there, fly on to Mexico city (pick up pens - one day, maybe two), then off to see mayan pyramids (three or four days, including a trek), then relax by the coast (one week).  And that assumes you don't want to travel around, A good friend of mine has just come back from 9 months spent in Ecuador, Venezuela and Colombia - and is already planning to go back.  I would jump at the chance - and stand available to pop over and buy a consignment of pens if you need.
