Okay, let's take a informal poll of everyone's favorite beverage when gaming. Please contribute your favorite stories concerning drinking and gaming (somehow that didn't come out quite right).

WTF is Mountain Dew? Is it available anywhere outside of the US? Is it like lemonade? 7up?

Over in the UK we have strange sodas too... Vimto, Irn Bru, Tizer and Red Cola all spring to mind. The only one of those I'd recommend is Irn Bru, and there are hundreds of copycat versions of it.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Mountain Dew is available in Canada but we have different beverage laws so no citrus drink can contain caffeine. Thus the heavily caffeinated US version is caffeine free in Canada.

If you can't get wired from sugar AND caffeine, then what is the point of drinking. (Of course the best way to drink it is to add gin so you get sugar, caffeine and alcohol).

That seems silly to me - what is the point of this sort of law at all?

I drink coffee. Because the games I play in go into the night. Our game last Friday night went to 5am. I used to drink wine, but that does not contribute to wise decisions. So have reformed. Kind of.

For a very short while, Canadian M-D was marketed as an energy drink

I forget the additives (maybe just the caffeine), but it didn't last long...

Yes. I was going to say the same thing. Nowadays I drink coffee. When I was a kid I used to drink iced coffee while playing.

I've had mead now and then, but i've never had good mead ... or perhaps all mead tastes bad.

As I understand it common mead is made from the outer combs and true mead comes from the heart combs where the richest deposits of honey are concentrated.

Used to love MD but caffeine doesn't mix well with some of the drugs I take (and I no longer touch processed sugar in any incarnation).

I have had good mead. It was at a banquet at an Irish castle.

Ah, yes. I was there in '96, I believe shortly after it was last sold. We had the mead as a pre-banquet beverage. I don't recall the entire meal, but I remember I had smoked salmon as a main dish. Do they still have the minstrels and tale-telling during the meal?

I was there in 1986 but I also remember some excellent smoked salmon.
The minstrels, dancers and tale-tellers were present at that time also.
