I picked up a Dungeon magazine shrinkwrapped with a AD&D 2nd edition preview. Anyone know the history of the 2nd edition preview? Was it released with magazines? Was it a retailer give-away?

Was this shrinkwrapped to the magazines? I know that at some point Dungeon came in a plastic mailing wrapper, but I can't remember when that started.

I have a Polyhedron 42 on its way to me. I purchased it for another reason, but the description said it included a 2nd edition AD&D preview as well. I wonder if it's the same.

If you're looking for the content vs. the item, Jason, it's on the WotC site @ http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/2ebook.pdf

FWIW, I thought it was an insert in both Dragon and Dungeon.

It was definitely an insert in Dragon, though it didn't end up in the Dragon Magazine Archive.  It should be in issue 142, from what I recall.

Yes, it was also an insert for Dragon magazine - the issue sounds right.  I believe with Dragon it was stapled into the middle.  So you can tell the magazine ones from the retailer ones by the staple holes.
