Art is one of those areas that is appealing to me until I see what it would cost just to dabble, much less be a player.

That's why I'm going to do this thread. Honestly, it really doesn't cost much at all to "dabble" what I did early on was costly and where I'm going will be costly but over the past 2 years I have done pretty well pretty cheaply.

Please, please, please tell me you store these with at least some archival paper between the sketches!

I have many portfolio books.

I think this is a massively important collection. Document it. Keep a journal of your purchases. Save every thing to do with your purchases. Film your collection and get as much documentation from the people you buy from/have bought from as possible.

Actually, I'm going to be selling much of this. -This is the start point- where I'm headed will hopefully be more personal and remarkable. Trust me;) - I've run my idea by a few objective people and they really liked my plan

I should say that I didn't really plan on getting all this art. I should also say that my plan here, asides from helping/motivating some people to maybe score some originals, is to wind up in another place as far as my collecting is concerned and again maybe motivate someone else to do something "fantastic"... to get to that end I should maybe start from the beginning.

  There was a sale some years ago, which was mentioned here, and it had to do with Fred Fields selling off all of his TSR paintings. Actually, that's not the start:?
  The beginning of my "art journey" or whatever began when I was maybe 9-10 years old. I lived in the middle of nowhere -Acton CA- and there was no cable, no tv reception or anything back then. It sucked balls. Anyways, we had that 1st VHS (like it was a piece of furniture) and we watched movies all the time and I was the Star Wars generation... anyways, my dad hooked me up with these Napoleonic watercolor paintings. Like genuine real deal Napoleon days artworks and that sort of reinforced my interest in adventure/D&D stuff. I hadn't ever seen a Dragon cover though until after that. I got a Dragon as a gift and that art rocked and then this movie called Fire and Ice came out and we had a bootleg copy of that. I watched that thing all the time! My dad was able to get me some original drawings from that film. That memory burned into my brain...

Anyways, the Fred Fields sale comes along and so I bought one of those out of nostalgia or whatever. I subsequently picked up two more. They were priced stupidly cheap- $500, $700, $900 per (I'm sure he was giving discounts to boot). I'm kicking myself now... Anyways, he sold everything. Then I made a mistake. I bought a piece from a secondary dealer. While I advise you to buy from the secondary market you need to avoid "dealers". I didn't really care though and it's only a mistake in hindsight as far as I should have just gone direct to the artist. I also advise doing this if you're looking for something nice from an artist that you like. 90% of the time (especially with TSR) they will not have anything you specifically ask for but they will have cool stuff.
I was also buying stuff from other collectors -which is the good secondary market- I bought a whole bunch of stuff.
Then the Dark Sun idea came along. Maybe to be unique or whatever I figured it would be cool to monopolize that whole world of art. Many of the covers are in collections but most wouldn't be too hard to pry free. Times get tough and people need money I was torn between this idea/strategy and my love for the classic covers Vs a finite bankroll.
Forward to yesterday or today or whenever and I'm sitting there thinking, "F__k, I have a lot of drawings..." When will it end, you know? When is your collection completed? What is it even? A lot of people hit a wall there and they decide to sell out at some point. Usually to some later regret Anyways, I had planned an out about 1 year ago as far as a "cool idea". I didn't follow through on it though because it was lacking in some ways. I worked it out though (my idea) and I hope it does work out and if so it will really be kick-ass Up until then I just have a bunch of cool drawings/paintings.

You waited a long time to show your superpowers here.  I'm totally blown away by your collection.  

Baxa's work strikes me as being a logical extension of the early stuff by Morno...or like a more mature version of early Jaquays.

The only thing here that makes me wince is the idea that you might sell your stuff.  

My advice is: Don't.  You will regret it - not only because these works will increase in value, but also because you will miss them.

Your grandaughter will show these works on Antiques Roadshow 2060 and they'll appraise for something like 100,000,000 Yen.
