for years he always used to stand right at the front of the crowd during the Last Night of the Proms.

Loved his earlier stuff - but not so much later.

Moorcock rose to a level that a number of established writers reach (Stephen King and J.K. Rowling being other good examples)>

The writer's books sell and his name gets familiar and the publisher does not bother or dare to edit the established writer's work.

Anyone who has read recent work like King's Lisey's Story or Rowling's The Deathly Hallows knows how badly these writers still need editors.

Moorcock was always briliantly bad - a style that swings hard and misses with grown men but managed to blow away romantic teenage boys.

When I re-read Elric or Hawkmoon I deliberately re-assume the role of romantic teenage boy and allow the story to carry me.  I suspect others here do the same thing.

I read the Jerry Cornelius novels as an adult.  I certainly would not have been swept away by them as a teenager and my adult self is left wondering if what I've just read is brilliant or tripe.  

That's why I'd be interested if someone asked Moorcock what the hell he was thinking....and if he was willing to answer give a frank answer.
