Following the Titan thread, I thought it would be interesting to see how the community feels about some resellers.

Hi,

I have had no dealings with Titan, but I wasn't impressed with either NK or T&T when I used them.

Cheers,
Malc

I only bought once from T&T, it was a positive experience, never purchased from other two. These three are not my first choice in looking to buy something anyways...

I probably wouldn't buy from any, purely based on living in the UK and I have found better & easier deals here with the guys like, killjoy, gyg & lawrenson.

From across the water I have bought items from badmike/scketrewhisp & Mars and it has also been very simple and fair.

I wouldn't touch T&T due to their ridiculouse starting prices/rubbish descriptions and get the impression Titan aren't great sellers either. I guess I'd have a go with NKG but I just have never visited their site!  :?

cheers
Dave

I am very surprised at hearing negatives about NKG. My experiences have been that their customer service is excellent.

Troll & Toad, I've won a few auctions from them on ebay for small stuff and never had a problem.

Titan Games I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.

I have ordered from Troll & Toad twice.  The first, I overpaid for my item but it was the capstone for me to call that collection "done" and I knew that going in.  The second time, I found a couple of items cheaper than I could find anywhere else.  So, overall not my first choice but I would buy from again if they had a superior price or a price I was willing to pay for an item I couldn't find anywhere else.

I got reamed at Titan games.  My first order was placed two weeks before Thanksgiving and didn't arrive until after Christmas.  The second time I decided to use a different shipping method and paid out the wazoo.  That was my last time dealing with them.  Never had any ebay experiences with Titan games.

Noble Knight is my out of print and small print run retailer of choice (Amazon still dominates the large press stuff).  The couple of times I have had issues, they have offered concessions to make it right.  Generally, I have been pleasantly surprised with the condition of the items I received versus what Noble Knight graded their used items.  However, in the last year or so, it seems like they over grade what should be the easiest grade: Mint/New.  Just because a product is hot off the presses doesn't make it Mint.  That being said, their Mint/New works were the only area I wasn't 100% satisfied at the end of the transaction.  Noble Knight is still my one stop for the "new" small press works such as Castles & Crusades and Advanced Adventures plus any of the large press items I can't find at Amazon.

I've bought from all three at various times.

I still buy from NKG on a regular basis, although recently mostly newly-released products. I have bought a fair number of OOP items from them in the past. Their OOP prices can be high for some items, but most are within reason. I have always received everything in the condition described. They usually ship within one business day.

I bought a number of things from Titan Games when they were around. As others here have mentioned, I always considered their ridiculously high shipping and handling as part of the purchase price, and only bought those items that were still cheap when it was taken into account. I also accepted the fact that in exchange for the low price, I was going to have wait at least 10, maybe more like 14, days to receive what I ordered. Beyond that, I had no problems with them.

I no longer buy from Troll and Toad and have not for a long while. When I was buying Hackmaster stuff, I purchased several of the bestiary books from them. One of the "new" condition books was pretty thoroughly damaged. Since all the other books were in great shape, it clearly hadn't been damaged in shipping. I was able to exchange it for a better copy, but only after I paid the return shipping, which I felt was ridiculous since they had shipped me destroyed book.

My final transaction with them was when I purchased a group of items at once. I had an upcoming trip where I would be without internet access for several days. Over a period of 3-4 days leading up to the trip, I made multiple requests for an invoice with combined shipping but received absolutely no response from them. Finally, just before leaving for the trip, I paid the full shipping for all the items with a request that they refund the difference. Naturally, I never got a refund.

I have also bought from Dragon's Trove and Hit Pointe with no trouble.

As am I.  I assume they were added to the poll for the purpose of contrast.

Agreed in general but if the stock isn't readily available elsewhere Aaron still gets the thumbs-up as with viewtopic.php?p=134200#134200 thanks to those shipping costs and attention to packing.
I'd be even happier if NKG had more "interesting" stock without some of the recent price bumps, but nonetheless the best marker of the three from my p.o.v.

This is the one place I have only heard good things about. I ought to email them when I'm looking for something...

Now that I think about it, I did have a problem one time out of the couple that I purchased from NKG.  I had bought a bunch of new DCC modules that came in the new condition as advertised, but a second time I purchased a book listed as "near mint". It arrived looking somewhere around very good but not even "fine". I didn't make a fuss about it since it was a $15 book, and I didn't feel the need to pay an additional $3-4 in shipping it back, but I figured in the future, I'll only buy new material from them.

I have bought from NK and Titan, both with good results.

Troll and Toad has always done me right with packaging and customer service, but

OMG THE OVERPRICING

So many times when looking for random things, they have them priced at like 3 or 4 times the going rate.

Agree with the others above.
Have dealt with CE many times over the years and I have never had a bit of trouble.
Nothing but nice notes and great sales with promp protected delivery all at a good price.
But for me it would be more like ten thumbs up since I am all thumbs...

Toad has many CHEAP items at rock bottom prices and ships them as cheap as possible for good deals on those types of things.
But Anything that might have some less than common as dirt value is priced to rob your bank blind......

I haven't had a single bad transaction with Noble Knight over the years.  If I have questions about one of their products I always get prompt response from them.  The only negative is that some of their prices on OOP items are, in my opinion, excessively high which keeps me from being a regular customer.

Troll & Toad I have stayed away from simply because of all of the bad publicity they have received in the past.  If they made a significantly better attempt at grading their items accurately and not using stock photos I might consider buying from them once in a while.

Titan Games.  Never bought from them....never will.  Even at Gen Con when they had their "Buy one....get three free" sale going on I stayed away.

Crazy Egor.  Happily purchased from Crazy Egor several times on Ebay and at Gen Con.  Very nice people.  Correct me if I am wrong, but they dont have a website that you can make purchases from right?  If they did I would probably use them more often to fill in some of the holes in the collection.

The Dragon's Trove.  Purchased from him a couple of times.  No problems.

FRP Games.  Purchased from them a few times on Ebay and from their website.  Only one time did I have any sort of problem and that was because they ran out of an item that I purchased and I had to wait an extra week until they got replenished.  Mainly newer items....not much OOP stuff.

ASGI RPG Store.  Nothing but good experiences buying from Al.

Purchases from Noble Knight have been great.

Years ago I bought a couple of times from Titan Games and those sales were great also.

My one purchase from Troll and Toad was a bit of a drama as they overcharged me a lot for postage. But when I pointed it out they did refund me, so pretty good really. I agree that they have an odd mixture of bargains and ludicrously overpriced items.

I never had a problem with Noble Knight so I'd recommend them.  Dragon's Trove and Crazy Egor are two of the oldest outfits in the business, and they're both very good.
