** expired/removed eBay auction **

Firgured I would give this one its own thread. Post your estimates and comments.

My overall opinion on th is auction has nothing to do with price. This guy probably spent a long time collecting that stuff. He may be a new age collector and bought it all in the last ten years or he could be like me, and bought off the shelf when the stuff was published.

Either way, it is a sad thing to have to dump your collection.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

WOWSERS!   8O

Nice collection indeed.

But His take on shipping/insurance is simply wrong headed and makes no sense for the B-3 Orange being fully insured.
He states corrently the limit for insurance, but seperating portions of the large lot and the shipping it all in several packages will not help matters if the B3 Orange is damaged or lost.
Even if it is shipped all alone in a heavily padded crate.......... it would not help by insuring that one item for only $650 (Or so).
Since that item alone is worth more than all the rest of that lot combined and then some.

Lot of nice items in any case.
Too bad he did not have the patience and advanced E-Bay/RPG selling knowledge to seperate much of it into smaller group lots.
He would have made FAR more money that way.

That said, I doubt seriously that he is a new age collector.
In fact he stated that he got this stuff new off the shelf, or close to it.

$40 BSolo, B1-B7
$100 B10, B11. B12
$100 XL-1, X1-X9
$100 X10, X12, X13
$100 CM Series
$30 IM series
$10 O series
$400 for GAZ series
$30 Hollow World series
$50 DDA series
$20 Misc rest of stuff
$200 RPGA 1 Rahasia
$1000 Orange B3
----------------------
$2380

My high on these would probably be

$15 1001 Basic Box Set
$15 1011 Basic Box Set (Purple Box)
$25 1012 Expert Box Set x2
$10 1011 Basic Box Set (Red Box)
$10 1012 Exper Box Set (Blue Box)
$25 1013 Companion Rules Box Set
$40 1021 Master Rules Box Set
$50 1017 Immortal Rules Box Set
------
$190

$325  for 13 GAZ at $25 each
$50 9232 GAZ8 The Five Shires
$50 9236 GAZ9 The Minrothad Guilds
------
$425

These ones might not be so conservative :)

I gotta respectfully disagree with you there. I think Mars has a fair estimate of the other stuff, saying about $1400 without the Orange B3. An unshrinked Orange B3 is gotta have a max value of $1200, no?  Probably closer to $1k?

Already over $2000, with more than five days to go.  A battle between feedback 414 and 619 shaping up . . . or will it be won by a snipe at the end?

$2450 I reckon.

Mars' numbers are just about on the button I'd say - so realistically this is not going to be a resellers lot. (Good insta-collection though - chuck in an RC and a couple of poor wizards almanacs and you're good to go!)

(I'm o***o btw - not bidding to win, I just get a pathetically tragic thrill typing such high numbers   8O )

Some of You are posting average sale prices for average listings of individual items.

This is nowhere near an average listing for average stuff.
This one is epic.
This is an entire collection and a HUGE one too.

An Orange B-3 in near mint condition could sell for around $1400, with a shrink wrapped one easily going for $1600.
Folks wanting one in this condition for $1000 (or less! 8O ) are dreaming of days long gone.

And a good copy of Rahashia can easily go for $250.

I have seen the GAZ copies reach $25 and even $50 each or more in Near Mint or SWed condition, and that is not for the Box Sets either.
And yes, I have seen some go for around $10-15 each too.
BUT; This seller has listed them ALL together in one auction.
Many a collector (Such as ME!) would pay a premium for getting them all at one time.

He has FIFTEEEN complete GAZ sets here, all in good to Very Good Condition at least.
$400 for all of them at one time in very good condition is a relatively small price to pay..... for a collector.

PLUS, I can picture some big time E-Bay re-seller paying $3,000 for this listing just to be able to get the Orange B3 and the Rahashia alone much less all the other fine items!
I wont name them, but I know of one such company that would re-list the Orange B3 for that much immediately.

Most of this sellers items are in Very Fine condition, or better.
With more than 4 days left; there is No way this ends at $2326.57........
The last of the bids will go WAY over $2500, perhaps reaching above $3000..........

Ahh, I love the speculation...

I gotta think the 'lot' sale is going to temper the price somewhat... a collector looking for an OB3, for example, probably would be picking up duplicates... that must affect the bids, right?

Like aneoth says...  at least this auction's getting the publicity it deserves... here's hoping wherever it ends up, the buyer & seller both get a good deal   :D

This is always the trade off.  How many people are turned off because they have half (or more) of the items already vs those that want a complete set of things and are willing to pay a premium for them.

In general, I wouldn't think there are too many people with OB3 money who don't have a set of GAZ modules (or at least most of them).

I guess someone has already warned this chap against the ctard and his various guises??

That is one hell of an impressive collection and such a shame he has to sell up, but I guess that's a necessity with the fella's situation...  :(

Yes, I warned him. I never told him to block ctard, just to be extremely cautious and to not mail to him in the UK.  The seller then asked me for ctard's ID so he could block him, as he didn't want to risk it.

As for the value of an opened B3, does anyone have any evidence of one selling at auction for more than the $1100 blackmoor paid last GenCon?

I think some of you are way over estimating the total value of the auction of some of these items.  To note, outside of the 2 valuable items in that lot, there is a total of 83 individual items.  Considering the per item value, that's $12.05 per item to just get it up to $1,000. That's almost unheard of in any large common item lot.  In most cases, the larger the lot, the less value per item you get and that is why it's almost always better to sell things individually then as a lot.

Then, when you consider that quite a few items such as the green B3,  B2, X1, XL1, X3, X5(which looks pretty rough on its own), the 5 Hollow World modules, the Art Book, the Monster & Treasure Assortment, 2 of PC sheets(the newer ones AC6 & REF2 and really depending on how many sheets are left the blue covered older one  possibly as well) all are likely not even worth $4 each themselves, its starts to push the per item value for the other items up even further.

Just looking at the lot, the only items by themselves worth $12 or more each if auctioned individually would be:

  • Immortal Rules Set
  • Master Rules Set
  • Companion Rules set(maybe)
  • B10
  • B11
  • B12
  • GAZ1-GAZ4 (all maybes.  I have seen them go for more, I have seen them all go for less)
  • GAZ5-GAZ14
  • X9 (maybe)
  • X10, X12, X13
  • CM7-CM9
  • CM5 (maybe)

That's only 25 items, several of which(7 to be exact) could just as likely go for less than $12 on their own as I have seen them do so on many occasions.  Also of that 25, only 8 routinely go for more than $20 on their own(Immortal Set, X10, B10, GAZ5, GAZ8, GAZ9, GAZ10 and CM9).  And again, that doesn't even factor in the general rule that the larger the lot, the less per item value that occurs 99.9% of the time.

If this auction didn't include the Orange B3 and the RPGA module, this thing would have a hard time reaching $1,000 on its own.  Don't get me wrong, it's a nice collection, but the Orange B3 and the RPGA1 is what is what driving this auction without a doubt.

I'll be really surprised if this thing pushes much higher than its at right now, I am thinking no more than $2600-$2700 and to be honest would be the least bit surprised to see it end at the total it's at right now.  Time remaining on the auction is not a guarantee that it will continue to push higher. Anything more than $2600-$2700 and you are going to start looking in the silly range, because at $2700, you are looking at $1400 for an opened and used Orange B3 and $300 for RPGA1(which is usually what it gets on its own by itself) and $1000 for a bunch of common items that would likely never get that high without the 2 rares in the auction.

Yes, my valuation is based that whoever buys the lot could sell off everything separately for about $2400 (at least).  Generally buying a big lot like this you would get a nice discount on that price.  The OB3 has caused a bit of a fenzy. Also 414 has been buying up rares lately so this falls nicely into their sinister plans.
