It's been weighing heavily on my mind all day, so maybe this will give me some relief. I found out today I lost a friend in the worst possible way:

He was my office mate in graduate school, and a dear, kind friend. I just can't believe it.

He's the 3rd one from our cohort in grad school who has died. We were a small and fairly cohesive group in that department. The first one went down in a plane over the pack ice looking for polar bears and was never found. The second one was murdered in his cabin by a claw-hammer wielding maniac. And now, Nick. God, it's horrible.

Time to find a glass of gin...

Wow, that's very disheartening. You never know why someone does something like that. Keep yourself well, man, we'd hate to lose you too...

Sorry to hear that. Any loss of friends or family takes time to absorb and deal with.
Reading that story on HuffPo I cannot begin to imagine the psychological baggage that he had to deal with throughout his life.
Remember the good times you had with him, that is the best way for you to honor his life.

I'm sorry to hear this, my condolences.

It is terrible to lose people in this life. My father and sister have passed away, my cousin who was just about my sister's age passed away a week ago.

For myself I know that there is more to life beyond the physical, the nuts and bolts, flesh and blood existence. But we can see that there are two possibilities when we die, something or nothingness, and if it is nothingness then it is a perfect dreamless sleep without pain, or fear, or even thought. And if it is somethingness then we will sometime, somehow, find all those we love once again.

I'm sorry for your loss as well, Stephen. Words seem so inadequate, particularly for the son of poets. Yet he seemed to find his own place in life. I hope good memories help you through this difficult time.
