Is this true? Do the 3.5 core books rise in price?

Searching past auctions on eBay shows that Mars is correct.  Many PHBs are now selling for around $20.  But here's one that didn't sell for $9.99 + $2.93 shipping:

Have they always been selling for around $20 on eBay, or is this a recent change in prices?



Amazon has higher prices, but that is often the case.  If a book is priced too high, it will sit on Amazon and not sell.



Maybe this is an elaborate April Fool's joke.

Oh, God . . . searching Amazon for "3.5 handbook player's" is NSFW, as the last result on the first page is for a book entitled, well, I don't want to post the title.  Just search for "Player's Handbook Volume 3" . . .    



The "Player's Handbook" series is apparently written for all of you ballers and playas out there . . .

It would be strange for these to be selling for more than cover price though.  I can still walk into almost all the local game stores and pick this up (most are still trying for cover price though).  I'm sure the print run was something huge so I doubt it will ever be rare.

3.5 books are still widely-available in FLGS in Texas, though some have been trying to get rid of them with discounts.

I'll buy some 3.5 PHBs and drive down the Amazon price.  At least two other sellers are already doing that with the Midnight: Fury of Shadow boxed set.

If the perception that nice copies of these books are rare starts to spread, then that will become reality.  Imagine hundreds of thousands of D&D players trying to find a minty-mint copy of a 3.5 PHB and sell it on eBay . . .

These books are still pricy in HPB because the cover price is so high.  Occasionally they go into the Clearance area, but they usually sit on the normal shelves.  For that price, I can buy 4E books at HPB and see if they sell on eBay or Amazon.

I guess the newfound demand is good for pen-and-pencil gaming and D&D in particular.  I'm still thinking that the alleged price increase is a bubble with no relationship to the actual supply.

I didn't track 3E/3.5/d20 prices before, and I'm not tracking them now . . . unless I start selling PHBs for cover price on Amazon . . .

Or maybe 4E players have downloaded illegal PDF versions of the books and find the physical books to be redundant.

I put a softcover copy on Amazon at an exhorbitant price.  Maybe it will become a collector's item.
