Ok, not sure what it's going to be called... Bad Mike and I discussed it today, so he will have more details... (mini conference ?)

First weekend in June ie: 06/05/09 - 06/07/09 so mark your calenders, buy your plane tickets, plan a weekend spa for your wife, send the kids to grandma's house

Mike want's to rent a conference room in Euless for game playing, hanging out, whatever... maybe a speaker, possible game store sponsor for something...  then we can come to my house on Saturday for a cookout and/or more game playing... etc

I'll stop there... and let Mike post all the rest of the details... He seems to have been thinking on this for a bit.

One thing for sure, I will be putting up a Dragon #1 as a door/drawing/raffle type prize....

Lemme guess... must be there to win? Oh well. Another opportunity lost.

serleran

We are still working out the details on paying for this, getting sponsors etc... I think we have some funding so far in the $500.00 range so we will see....

If it's a raffle, then it may be anyone that wants to buy a ticket can and thus not need to be present to win....

so stay tuned as we iron out the details

I will say this. At the moment we have $300 towards someone's plane ticket ... not sure how best to raffle that off at the moment, but Mike will get some more details over the next few days...

What is the average temperature in that area in early June?
Being from Canada I start melting around 90 (F) degrees.  :P

It would be odd to have a game day with some kind of prize and then nobody who went there won the prize. That would be kind of a downer imo.

We'll save a place for you Serl... :D

Ok so we have a weekend, now just to see who or how many are interested. Worse case scenario, only the locals show up and eat BBQ and drink margaritas all day from the margarita machine.  Best case, we get some non-regulars and maybe some out of state people along with a luminary or two to travel here. Either case should be a lot of fun!  Hey, the economy sucks so this might be as good as it gets this year convention-wise!!!!

The weekend is June 5-7 (first weekend in June, there shouldn't be any other gaming type conventions this weekend to compete or interfere).  Depending on how many and who, we will have some "events" scheduled, including (hopefully) gaming, eating, drinking and perhaps even an excursion or two (anyone want to hit all the area half price bookstores in one day?).  I'm keeping plans and expectations low until I hear from at least a half dozen "definites" and at that point we can really start planning something more than just a eat and drink that Saturday.

I will say that I have room for one guest at my house and first come first served, anyone who wants to come from out of state or out of the Dallas area is welcome to stay in the guest room during that time if they notify me early enough.  The room you would be staying in has my entire RPG collection in the closet so there WILL be a suitcase check before you go home.... :)

DFW airport is five minutes away from my house and the hotel I have scouted out in the past (Quality Inn).  I have taked to them about renting a meeting room before and it is quite reasonable.  The last time I talked to them rooms were $70 a night, they are in a good part of town (and it has a Starbucks and a Dennys within 20 yards) and about a minute away from my house. There are some nicer and more expensive hotels a little farther from my place if you don't care about saving a buck or two, and some a little cheaper (Motel Six and Microtel) if you think you might want to come on a budget.  I have a link to local hotels I'll post here if anyone is interested.  The area around DFW airport is good because nearly everyone has free shuttle service to and from the airport and you won't need a car (everything is pretty close around here, and I will volunteer to drive as many as I can).

If we can get at least ten people to come I'd be ecstatic. More than that I'll be amazing and astonished.  If there is any interest shown we will attempt to get a guest of honor if they are cheap enough for us (Texas is home to a few) and they will take expenses and a small fee to show up.  We won't look into it, however, unless we do get some decent interest from a few folks.

If anyone thinks they might be interested in attending our shindig, whether you live in Texas or not, please post here or PM me so we can gauge interest and decide whether or not to invest a lot of time or not so much time into planning this weekend. Worse scenario, you show up and the Texas Acaeum Mafia has to drive you around, buy your drinks and entertain you for the entire weekend, how can you beat that?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say at the very least myself, ScketreWhisp, Aneoth, KingofPain and JohnGaunt will be there to entertain you.  And, at the very least, there will be a nice meal, a margarita machine, and gaming, how can you lose?

I will post updates here regularly as planning continues and I hear from interested individuals.

I will be at a wedding in New Orleans that weekend, but will raise my glass to the west in solidarity.  Wish I could be there.

Sounds fun!  Unfortunately, I'll be in England with my wife celebrating 20 years of marriage. :)   Maybe next year.

Mmmm, Texas BBQ (including a thick slice of white bread?) and margaritas with REAL tequila.  Doesn't get much better than that.

Wish I could be there, boys, but am leaving for the Arctic Circle the week before that.

BTW, I think my wife and I stayed at that Quality Inn after missing a flight out of Dallas a couple of years ago, and can vouch for Mike.  It was a nice place and close to several amenities.

Sounds great.

But for me it all about the work schedule and where I will be. If I can arrange my schedule as it gets closer, I will make the trek.

The other smaller problem is that is "Crazy" time for the Barsh family as my wife being a teacher is in freak out end of the year mode.

I'm interested in attending, but won't know until it gets closer to that date.

Most of the big shows wind down for summer break after Memorial Day...

Ok, glad to hear from a few more people, sorry some can't come, but we won't give up :)

My son (who is a member here) is part owner in a LARP group here called NERO (http://nerodfw.net) and they have about 50 members who not only LARP, but also play various versions of D&D (and other various RPG games) and range in ages from teenagers to 50+ year old.

I have asked David to let his group know since it would be nice to get people there for some serious gaming... I know for sure of 5 people from the group that will attend already...

So Mike, with those 5, and you and me... we got 7 so 10 is not too far away :)

I'd prefer as many Acaeum members as possible, but I think for the first year, getting a nice number might help to get others interested in the future years :)

Being a local and a charter member of the Acaeum Texas Mafia, I am most definately in.
And although it would only be a drop in the big bucket, I would buy a ticket or two for a raffle to help defray costs.

I plan to ask my oldest grandson to come with me as well, though that descision is his and his parents to make.
So you have 8-9 at this point.
