Below is the link to last year's thread...needless to say, I have been waiting for this since the last one ended! We had an absolute blast. My wrists hurt for a week....

It is March 13-15, and the cost is well worth it....$15 for one day, or $30 for a weekend pass. I'd get the weekend pass if I thought I'd be able to move my flipper fingers after 8 hours or so of pinball fun. Demolition Man, here I come!!!!

Anyway, last year we met up at the Golden Corral in the Grapevine Mills parking lot early Saturday morning, and then hit the pinball machines for several hours, took a break for lunch, and then more pinball mayhem. I'm definitely in again this year. Anyone else from the North Texas area (or beyond) want to meet up?

Ok, for those attending the Pinball Festival on Saturday March 14, 2009 here in Grapevine Texas....

I am going to "sponsor" a tournament for any of the Acaeum members that come.

Basically, I'll create a chart for people to put their names in (we can draw for match ups) and we will play a double elimination process. (when you lose in the top bracket, you move to the bottom bracket and continue against other bottom bracket players... etc)

Each set of matched up players in a bracket have to agree on a pinball game/machine to play for their match and then report the winner etc...

The winner will get to pick 1 item from a few extra items I have in my collection to include (and they are in F to VF condition):

Strategic Review #1
Strategic Review #2
Strategic Review #3
Strategic Review #4
Strategic Review #5
Strategic Review #6
Strategic Review #7
Dragon Magazine #16 w/mailing cover
Dragon Magazine #18 w/mailing cover
Dragon Magazine #25 w/mailing cover

One of my memories from last year was playing the Demolition Man machine for something like four hours to finally get the high score, only to have JohnGaunt erase it effortlessly on his first try at the machine.....sheesh.

Actually for the contest, it doesn't matter, it's up to you and the person you are matched with in that bracket... so whatever the two of you agree on for your particular competition... so yo might be playing Galaga or Asteroids, as long as the two competing in that bracket agree ...

I cut up cardboard to make my own shipping boxes and envelopes. This is a tedious task, but I find that it adds some amount of satisfaction to my eBay and Amazon selling. Cutting cardboard is as close to craft work that I will ever get, and the unique results prove that I should stay away from handicrafts.

After playing pins for around four or five hours today, I find that using a boxcutter is somewhat painful. I can't wait to see what my forearms feel like tomorrow . . .

Random observations:

- Doug loves pinball machines
- King hates pinball machines
- Mike is the master of the Stargazer
- Older pinball machines are cheaper than last year --- $400 - $1000, but is that due to the condition of the individual pins or the pinball market?
- Newer pinball machines are still expensive --- multiple thousands of dollars

I f*cking OWNED Stargazer....I was doubling up those chumps scores and not even trying. Don't go old school pinball on me, I'll take you down.

Other than that, I sucked. Odd instead of all the Demolition Man pins from last year, instead we had half a dozen Terminator 2 pins (probably trying to cash in on the new Terminator movie).

I really love those old Stern machines with the beautiful artwork (so does King). I wouldn't mind have a Stargazer, Black Knight and Sea Witch in my gameroom just to look at.

Nice to see they are still making pins...saw some newer machines like CSI, Spiderman, Family Guy and Dark Knight (probably the newest pin there). I find I really enjoy any newer pin based on a movie or tv show....my faves this year were Starship Troopers, Star Trek: TNG, Terminator 2, and The Simpsons.

It was much more crowded than last year....last year, we had the place to ourselves until noon. This year, there was a line to get in and it was packed all day. It's really a good value for the money, and word must have gotten out this year. Plus, lots more kids and families this year than last.

I got some nice pictures of the machines....I'll post them as soon as I get them downloaded.

My fingers are really sore....!

Badmike, I throw down the gauntlet.
I managed a pinball arcade for a couple of years while in college, and even held a national record for awhile when the old US Pinball Association held sway on an old school, electro-mechanical called Four Square.
The new electronic games suck dry dung, man. Too many flashing lights and chrome wire ramps and crap.
I own a Jumping Jack-2 player version--that I like to keep my wrists and flipper fingers limber on, whenever I unpile the gaming junk usually stacked on it.
We need an advance scout in Indy that can find us a place with the good older machines, not this Battlestar Galactica school popular now.
