This is my original PHB from way back. It is a 6th Print (actual) and as you can see, I used the crap out of it. I actually had to to tape the spine back in 1982 or so. Just pulled it out for a review and the spine has broken loose again...Just performed some surgery, but I had to take some pics for posterity...

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

May I ask, in dollar value, how much that book is worth to you?
(and if you think you've had you're money's worth yet?!)

Seriously though - kudos to you - wish I had all my original books (sticky back plastic covering and all!!)

You can never have too much of something you didn't need in the first place.

I would let everything else in my collection go before letting go of this with the only exception being my original Holmes set - which is a second printing.

Luckily, I still have most, if not all, of my original purchases. But few hold the same sentimental value as my PHP. My DMG and MM are if a little better shape, but not much! I need to take picture of my original low impact dice from the Holmes set...

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

I wish I had my old originals. Unfortunately, my mother tossed them in a fire (I rescued them from there without a touch of burning) but they then ended up in a mulcher (even longer story than the first.) Oh well. Glad that you have your first books, still.

And I thought my MM was 'well-used'. Even with the spine surgery, now it doesn't look so bad.

And I agree, my originals won't be sold without the lead flying first! You can take my PHB from my cold, dead hands!

Even with all the wear and damage, I envy you still having your original PHB. Mine was lost years ago, along with the MM, DMG, D&DG, etc., and although they've been replaced, and I gamed a great deal with the replacements, I wish I had those first copies of all my AD&D stuff.

One of the first things to go when I started selling and trading online back in 1994 or thereabouts was my original set PHB, MM and DMG (all bought new off the shelf when they were first released). At the time I had acquired a minty set of same and thought I would trade them out for my old, battered set (and I was playing 2E anyway at the time). Kind of wish I had saved them, but in my line of work I'm not really the sentimental sort :cry:

Both of my brothers still have their original 1E hardback sets and give me all sorts of grief for this bad decision...

Yeah, there are a few things I got rid of when I was young and foolish (as opposed to me being old and foolish) that I wish I had never ditched. Now comes the pain of trying to get suitable replacements. Will never be the same.

Oh, I have sold some of my original stuff and I am exceedingly pissed about it.

For example, I had convention programs for every convention I attended back to Wintercon 1978, Origins, Gen Con, etc. I auction them all off about 10 years ago. WTF was I thinking. I really can't figure it out.

I have managed to recover nearly all the GC programs, but the others I have never seen.
