Well, here goes!  I'm headed for http://www.bonanzle.com to list my game collection stuff!  I'll start listing Wednesday night.

 I picked bonanzle after reading a few revies, finding their methodology to my liking, and finding a fairly solid number of games already listed.  It's a UK site and has an "early Ebay feel" to it though things do work quite differently.  I'm posting a topic for the following reasons:

1.  Anyone want to warn me away from http://www.bonanzle.com or is it OK as far as anyone knows?
2.  We tried RPG marketplace but for some reason it's just not effective.  Maybe if we band together and make some other auction site the "site of choice" for finding our style of games maybe it will catch on.
3.  It's UK and I sell quite a bit into the UK.
4.  Who knows, maybe I'll sell to a few Acaeum members because you read my shameless post here and came over looking for my stuff.

 My main concern is operating outside the "protections" Ebay has enacted.  While I am in actuality refusing to sell on Ebay BECAUSE of their "protection" I'm also reluctant to try a new and un-tested method.  Thoughts?

 No, no... I get the point.  Significantly Not As Described (SNAD).   Having some form of a buyer protection system is a great thing if someone is trying to cheat you.  Most sellers, no matter how small, will gladly refund a portion or all of your payment if they honestly screwed up on the description.  However, there are those who leave out deatails or over-rate condition intentionally.  These are the problematic people.  As you said, they are a nightmare with or without PAYPAL and Ebay involved.

 Key thing here is to get to know who you are dealing with.  If you ever buy from me you'll note that I give you my actual phone number.  It serves two purposes.  #1 we can talk and work out any issues that come up and #2 it shows that I'm not trying to hide in any way behind an obscure on-line ID.

I don't get it at all. Good luck. Let us know how well you manage to sell, and whether you get the watchers, sales prices, etc. you'd normally get on eBay. I wouldn't be willing to risk my income on the hunch that a whole load on newbies would be willing to buy what I had for sale, but then I don't have money to waste and I'm no trailblazer I guess.

I would venture a guess that your average D&D module or hardback would fetch the same $10-15 that you'd get anywhere, on account of the market being flooded with them. I'm interested to find out whether you can get high prices for sought after goods, or whether they don't sell for the prices you'd get on eBay.

My hunch is the later. That was certainly my experience with RPGmarketplace and it was industry specific. I've also tried eBid, Yahoo and Amazon with no success (on account of there being no buyers). IMO, you do your best business on Main Street, so why go open a shop in a village in the middle of nowhere?

There's the Catch 22. It's not worth listing high end rares or premium items, because when there are only one or two buyers in a place the finishing costs are too low and you lose out as a seller. I found that I could list items on RPGmarketplace and they wouldn't sell at all because no-one is willing to buy from fly-by-night auction outlets (not even from the established big players like Yahoo). I could then list the identical items on eBay, with the exact same photos and descriptions, and mark up the prices to cover eBay's fees as well, and the goods would fly off the shelf. And look at the prices you got for some of your premium items in recent months. You could not get those prices anywhere on the web except eBay, so selling on eBay is the only viable option to someone who cares how much money they get for their goods. And because that is where everyone who has good quality product to sell must sell it, that is where all the buyers go to buy the stuff, and that will reinforce eBay's market position. They own the market.

Now if there are exceptionally generous collectors among us who don't care about how much they sell things for, or how long things take to sell, then those people can help underwrite newbie sites and maybe some of us will get bargains from them to boot. Everyone wins, and while the seller doesn't get much money, they do get that warm fuzzy generous feeling and the blissful cloud of not knowing whether they truely lost out or not. For me, that level of ignorance would kill me, so I'd rather sell through a channel where I have at least a good level of control over the governing factors. It is that level of control that I pay eBay for. They provide me with the exposure, and the customer base, and PayPal provide my security. I can't get that anywhere else on the web. Nowhere even comes close.
