My first posting so be merciful if I mess this up.

I'm working on a little project involving the AD&D 2nd Edition Player's Handbook and noticed something.

I have 10th printing (Aug. 1993) and an 11th printing (Feb. 1994) and noticed two differences.

The front cover of each is the same painting by Jeff Easley.  The 10th printing has a pinkish cast to it while the 11th has an orangish cast.  The 10th uses the silver anniversary logo bottom center and the 11th uses the TSR circular dragon head logo.

The color graphics in the 10th printing are crisp while the 11th are a little muddy.

Does anyone have earlier or later editions that show any other differences?  Can you share the printing information as well as the month and year of the printing with me?  And finally, do we know the titles of any of the graphics and who they are by?

Thanks in advance.

I got my 2nd edition PHB when they were first released (long gone now) and it had the older "stacked" tsr logo. the "finish" of the cover was crappy and flaked away easily. Later I saw them with a more glossy finish and then they went to the red and gold "emblem" version of the "stacked" logo. I remember it was a pretty crisp printing of the art and it looked very golden-orange.

Thanks for the replies Gents,

So now the questions begging to be answered are, What is the title of the Easley painting?  What would be a fair market value for the copy on at eBay just now?

I checked through my stash and found I have the 11th printing, and crappy it is, while my daughter has the 10th in much, much better condition.  How dare she have a better one than the old man!

I'll keep this thread going for a spell, and the Almighty & Knowing Webmaster permitting, post a web site address showing what I am doing with the bibliographical information from the book.  I am contemplating searching for publication information on the other printings and posting it along with the biblio of a portion of my stash.  Time to kill!

This site has done such a wonderful job with the earlier material I think it is high time it be done with stuff.  Now to find out how much my picnic / birthday table cloth is really worth! <grin>

Hey Spider,

We started to do some cataloging of prints for 2nd Edition on the Tome of Treasures.  We have some basic info on a webpage here:

http://tomeoftreasures.com/tot_second_e ... ndbook.htm

There might be more in the TSR forums section as well.

Thanks kindly for the look Mars,

I just knew someone was doing something along this line.  You can add information on the 11th printing.  It uses the round red dragon with TSR in silver logo.  I don't know what folks call this logo.  The date of printing is Feb. 1994 and the prices are as on the 10th.  That is from the poor copy I own.  My daughter's copy (10th) uses the TSR silver ingot logo.  Look at the thumbnail on my page.

Not being a coder I am at present trying to learn how to take PHP, create a mysql database from my book cataloging program info, and then take that info and populate a PHP page.  And of course my HTML editor (GoLive CS2) is out of date.  Dreamweaver is on my list.  Supposedly with PHP I can populate the informational fields and then have the thumbnail images in a different section do the same thing.  I know it would save a lot of set up time on my part.

A very nice web site if a bit subdued for my tastes.<grin>  A happy medium between the two styles would make for good display of information with eye candy as well.  Your comments on the colors and display style would be appreciated.

I'll put a link on the page this evening for emailing your's truly.  And I hope you don't mind if I bookmark your site.
