I have a lot of older RPG games. I love them, far better than the flashy crap they make nowadays.

I collect them. They aren't worth much, but they are fun.

I have played (and loved) every single gold-box and a lot of others: Shadow Sorcerer, the EOB series, Dark Sun I & II, Ravenloft I & II, Menzoberranzan, plus almost all of the later ones up to ToEE. I own almost all the ones I've played, and one day or another I'm going to get the only gold-box I never owned.

King...the Icewind Dale, Torment, and especially the Baldurs Gate series were great games.  Every now and then I still pop in Baldurs Gate II with its expansion and play all the way through.  I crack up every time when I click that sentient sword and it says something to the effect of..."Lets find someone and kill him, then find someone else and kill him too...Hack and slash your way to fortune!  Whooohooo!"

There is a great site and web community where you get and discuss these old games. I found it when searching for an old RPG.

It has many of the old D&D games that are now freeware or abandonware. It has Might and Magic 1,2 and 3. It also has tutorials and downloads of programs such as dosbox to help you run them on your computer. Visit at your own peril though as you'll spend hours wasting time replaying these old games. It even has some of the old text-based adventure games:

'You are in a dark forest'

Go North

'You come to a well'    etc

Abandonia is truly a great site. I remember when I started looking for these games, I would find site after site that said 'free games'. Once you get there they say 'You can start downloading your free games for only $4.95 a month'  Yay.

However, Abandonia really does give you free access to freeware and abandonware with an option for voluntary contribution - which they deserve!

I just downloaded wasteland as well. Looks good!

Sure, Wasteland is on there, but where is the sequel Fountain of Dreams?  Didn't find any of the Apshai games, Rescue on Fractalus, or Beyond Castle Wolfenstein.  But I did find Loom, Day of the Tentacle, and Betrayal at Krondor.  Not to mention Elite!
