This never occurred to me. I paid an eBay purchase, the amount was definitely subtracted from my CC, but the dollar sign does not appear in the eBay page, instead there is an hourglass, and within PayPal the transaction is listed as "pending".

Any thoughts?

I had one of those a couple of weeks back, money paid by buyer, left his account, but took 12 days (including 2 weekends) to clear into my account. Wasn't even an international sale!

If my Paypal account is empty and I make a purchase on ebay(or anywhere) and use Paypal, then it will take 6-8 business days for the money to get to the seller, even though the cash leaves my bank account 24 hours after I initiate the transaction. That is the way it is with Canadian bank accounts. So someone (the bank) is making interest of all the cash they have sitting in limbo for a week at a time.

And the UK from what I can tell. I was surprised a couple of weeks ago when a seller told me he would ship once my 'instant' bank payment had cleared. That's never happened before but it seems to be occurring regularly now. In fact doesn't Paypal throw up a screen when you attempt to pay by credit card urging you to use a bank account as the payment is 'instant' and more secure?

So does this mean eBay is making Paypal compulsory, taking a cut from all sales AND playing the clearing game to earn interest too? That would be just about as greedy as it gets. No wait... the currency conversion scam is another earner.

Yep, it sure is. I have had four this week already.  Another scam by Paypal to hold onto your money longer and reap rewards from the interest.

PS:

I have been sending my buyers with "payment pending" issues the following email, along with the copy of the Paypal statement to "Not ship until the payment is cleared", which puts the onus completely on Paypal as the one holding up shipment of their item.  Feel free to edit and copy as needed:

Dear ===;

The item will ship as soon as the payment clears.  Just to let you know that recently Paypal is allowing bank transactions through paypal to have to "clear", which can take up to five-seven days.  Rest assured this item will ship as soon as Paypal allows the money into my account. Thanks!

Well - if you don't like Paypal, don't use it! But hang on... what do you mean I HAVE to use it? Anyone worried that eBay/ Paypal's next trick might be to come and rob your home? I think I'll beef up security.

Anyone else in the UK noticed any problems with Paypal? I haven't been able to login since yesterday.
