Well... any interesting places around there for a collector? I have to make a trip to that city, but it doesn't look very exciting. I hope I can make it at least a bit profitable!

I live in the area, and I can tell you with a great deal of confidence that there is little in the St. Louis, MO area for RPG players or collectors, AFAIK. There are VERY FEW gaming/hobby stores. Your best bet in the middle of the country is definitely Chicago or Dallas/Fort Worth.  Then there's always LA and NY.

Well, normally it's hard for someone going to Missouri to visit NY or LA. But, well, on this particular occasion, I arranged things so I can spend a couple of days in NYC on the way back to Italy. Since I have to go to USA, I try to go some place I like!

Kingofpain and I stopped at a White Castle in St Louis on the way back home from Gencon.  Best thing I can think of to say about that city.....

This confirms everything I thought of about St. Louis. Not very interesting indeed. Luckily, I'm going there for work and won't have a lot of spare time.

Even in just the five years I was in the greater L.A. area (1999-2004), the area was losing good stores right and left. Plus, it's L.A., so even when you find a great new store, you have to look at your Thomas Guide just to see how the hell to get there.

I'd be willing to be that the overall gaming scene in St. Louis compares just fine to the weak soup that is served up in most of Southern California.

Thank you. But I was there in April... and since it's one of the worst cities I've ever seen I hope this won't happen again...

I spent a week there on business trip a number of years back.  I stayed downtown and it was rather nice.  I would not recommend heading into the outskirts of downtown proper.  The north and east side where not good!

Guess that could be said for areas of all cities though.

my feeling is that at this stage (4E already landed in the bookstore shlves) every effort of an old school coollector should be put in visiting used book shops and places like this... there's no chance to get smtg interesting for that... only splat books and similar bullshit (BTW: i recently read in the wotc site that psionic in the players handbook are not present: it is likely that the authors were thinking to insert them in the PHB2... i thought: gosh, we're at the begginig and they have already mentioned splatbooks... but, worst is that i read a follow up of that article and the outcome is that psi are likely to be published with the PHB3...   )
