The previous thread was locked months ago, but I can not find the new thread. Or maybe the Collecting Appraisal forum is a better place for this item:

Seller whitetower67 sold a DMG that went for cheap:

It's a first-print DMG with the "D" running off the cover. It's worn but a steal at $9.99 + shipping. Was the shipping in a Priority Envelope too dicey, or was the book too worn to be collectible?

It doesn't look like the seller drew attention to the collectible details. In typical ebay-ese, '1st-print' is misused to mean just about everything. Someone gets a mid-80s orange spine DMG, learns it's for '1st edition,' & next thing you know it's listed as: "1st Print Dungeonmaster Guide Warhammer Runequest Dicebag LOOK!!!"

TSR's own terminology does little to clarify things. I have a DMG that was printed within a month or so of this one [mine has white flyleaves & no trailing D], but is not directly identified on the title page as a different printing. Providing a link to Acaeum's exhaustive history of printings would have been the only way for the seller to document it's significance.

Personally, I think that it was too rough to do too much more than that. I was watching it and I would have been scrathing my head if it went for muchh more that $15. Of the 3 original core rule books, the 1st print DMG is without a doubt most common, although its the hardest to spot to, because the cover is so similar to later prints. Its still pretty easy to spot though, if you know what you are looking for. Just my $.02.
