I recall seeing the 5 bag auction from Noble Knight along time ago on Ebay.  He must have a few of them.   But I also recall coming across them on his website for sale, and I believe you could specify the quantity.

Not sure what category they were under though.  Why don't you email him and inquire?

And if Deadlord's aren't enough for you, let me know.  I've got a bunch of 25+ year-old dice in various colors.  All with sharp edges, including "caltrop" d4s.  Like 90% of the guys here, I've got what my wife considers "too many dice"!

I don't think I've ever seen a set of them that were all the same colour, so that's not a big deal.

The number of dice I own pales in comparison to the number my SO does, so I don't think she's currently in any position to complain.

If you mean what I think you might, it's one of the oddest chapters in the history of games marketing. Around 1991, bowls of polyhedral dice showed up on the counters of convenience stores in Texas, next to the other impulse-buy items like lighters & candy.

I may have bought a few, but the question is, who else did? Why did they think the average convenience store customer would buy them? What turn of events led the distributors to have such a surplus if dice that they just had to onload them as widely as possible?

Ahhh the old dice.. complete with small sharp bits that chip off? heh. I'm afraid i'm too young to have anything like that (except those dice that came with the AD&D box set thingie), though I do have far far too many dice as well. No, they aren't that girly.. except the purple ones... most are in fact purple, green and black to be honest. Every nationals I lose at least one and aquire a couple though so i've got a fair few random d20's now.  This year I lost one and aquired three! not a bad haul all things considered, I blame two players "forgetting" their dice. Now I ask you, what sort of roleplayer forgets their dice at a national tornement? bah.. foolishness!

Oo lets have some pics of old razor sharp edged dice along side the modern less erm.. deadly ones aye? it could be an interesting comparrison.

None of my old, low impact dice have sharp edges.

If I had not put them away in a bag 16 years ago, they would only be colored fragments.

There are certain things in this world that just go missing:

Socks - but never in pairs.  always singles

Coffee spoons - I have had three just dissappear.  Poof!  Gone! Went to replace them and the store owner told me not only do they go missing at his house but they are also one of the most commonly stolen items from his shop.

Dice - I think the dog may know something.  Come to think of it I think he knows something about the socks aswell.

New here to the forum... but a reader for a while. I'm a long time collector...

This thread cought my eye because I would love for there to be a better history of the lineage of dice from the early days through the 80/90's. I fancy Gamescience dice the most and have been using them since the mid 80's. As for those old style ones... they had some bags of them at Advancing Hordes of the original 5-peice sets... night want to write them and see if they still have any left.

They only have singles from these styles left but you should be able to make up a set from them.

So just to clear a few things up; There also semed to be three early styles packed with the original Basic sets:

The 5-piece sharp-edged, green, yellow, blue, white, redish-orange set from the DCSIII covered basic sets. No 10-sider

The pale-blue (sometime brown) small medum-impact sets from the earliest Erol Otis Basic sets.

The Low-impact mixed color sets fromt he later Erol Otis basic set throught the earlies of the Red Basic set... these we also marketed as Dragon Dice but usually in nicer colors.

A few questions...

Did Lou Zocchi ever make dice for TSR?
What company made the other early sets (Dragon Dice)?
Anybody know where I can find Armory Chameleons?
