OK...let's see what is required right now.

1) I need one of those Gleemax foam toy things. Who's got one? Are they giving them out at GenCon, by any chance? Can someone get me one?

2) Has anyone got a hardcopy of the press release or other 4th edition promotional items?

3) I will need that player's introduction publication from next year.

4) Likewise with the wizard introduction or whatever that was gonna be.

5) Have there been any 4th edition plush toys, wallets, pencil sharpeners or frisbees yet? Beach towels?

6) One thing that would be cool would be a scale model of the crashed WOTC website!

Who else has some 4th edition collecting ideas?

Gleemax is worse than dumb, it's boring.

But...apparently I am going to collect him.

I must admit to being quite disappointed with the proposed cover art for the new books.

I was hoping for something a little...um...better.

I realize that times have changed and all, but the horned tiefling on the Players Handbook cover is yet another bone-headed marketing move. And I say this as a fan and a friend of WOTC. Not a good idea.

I liked the 1e books.... To me this was a golden age for D&D art. I know a lot of you started with the earlier artwork. But I felt Elmore, Parkinson, Caldwell etc brought alot to the game.

There is also something about the quality of the paper books vs the newer glossy books. I know the paper books age and yellow but still they just feel better when searching for things. And no I don't want to read the book online. I spend enough time as a developer killing my eyes in front of a screen as it is .... PDT_Armataz_01_12

Whilr I'm not wild about those covers, just about anything is better than the endless string of brown-books-with-encrusted-gems theme that Geniuses Of The Coast have used since 2000.

I was a graphic design student for a few years, and I can say that, without a doubt, those brown covers would not have passed a portfolio review. Seriously.

The world as we knew it in those glory days is long gone in the blaze of a misspent youth living for weekends around the gaming table. Right along with all the empty pizza boxes and six packs of our favorite beverages.

Unfortunately the D&D is moving right along with the video game industry hand in hand in an attempt to remain a viable hobby. I would suspect that a good portion of those posting here are outside the target audience of 4e since WoTC has to keep focused on the evolving trends of Junior High aged kids if it wants to remain in the market place.

As for me, the only way I will be getting the 4e core books is iff I continue to do any writing; otherwise, time to fill in the few gaps remaining in my 1e modules and set the Wayback Machine for 1979.
