Ok, so I know that eBay is all about who's willing to spend the money...

But as I sit here FRUSTRATED, trying to outbid seller "123diazjr" I am apparently fighting a losing battle.

I had always thought Council of Wyrms pieces sold between 18-25 dollars, and I have bid most up to $30. A few I am winning (just for a minute, I am sure), but the Dracolich I put in a bid of $40 and I was STILL outbid.

Am I completely de-valuing these pieces, or am I just bidding against somebody with a Mega-Millions winning ticket?

If you find yourself getting outbid frequently, you might consider sniping.  Of course sniping is no magic solution.  You can still be outbid by someone with deep pockets, but if you wait until the last 5 seconds of an auction to bid you give your competition less time to counter your bids.

There's ALWAYS another....

The best strategy is always to put a limit on yourself, and stick to it.  You will eventually get it for the price you want, if your bid is realistic.  Otherwise you will end up overpaying for almost everything you want because one person just has to have that item at any price....

Just bid what you think it's worth. I mean there's no point bidding more just because someone else likes/needs the thing more than you do. You'll just end up with buyer's remorse. If that means you never get the item, so be it.

Fortunately, though, these come up every now and then so you'll always have a chance at another one later.

You are lucky you don't live in Australia. In the category Role Playing Games - at any given time there are usually between 150 and 300 items only for sale in Australia. In the US listings there are always more than 10,000. Recently a lot of new collectors seem to have got into the market and just about every RPG or module listed in Australia goes for a lot more than the Acaeum prices. I put Acaeum value price bids on items and seem to win 1 in 20 items I bid for.



So then you need to buy from the US and there is postage to consider. Say a boxed set is worth $30 and you get it for $25, then you have to pay $25 postage. Bargain $50 - may as well have battled for it in Australia.

I know it is frustrating trying to buy these days. Especially to get the cheaper items to fill out ones collection. Good time to be a Seller though!
