In case anyone cares, the Acaeum's Twitter feed is coming down this week.  Twitter is closing off its API behind a paywall on Feb 9th, which isn't worth the very few people who rely on it.  One more tech company tossed on the burn pile of irrelevancy.

A platform that could have ruled the world, but spectacularly shot itself in the foot numerous times.  It is quickly becoming the MySpace of this decade.

I feel like it did rule the world for a time…and look at the messes that it had gotten us into, lol.

Thats sad :(

I use it a bit for work stuff/news and was nice to see the Acaeum feed.

Musks API pricing is ridiculous. Its amazing watching a person light 40bln on fire.

Is discord any better of an option?

I've only used Discord maybe like twice, and my take was that it's basically a collection of chatrooms, similar to Reddit.  Twitter is somewhat unique in that there isn't any substance to it -- because of the short character limit, it's basically just headlines.  So it's a great way to let a million people know that your house is on fire, that Dragon #1 is for sale on eBay, or that Russia is invading Ukraine again.  And then those people come to the Acaeum to read more about those things.  It's somewhat counterproductive to have those conversations on websites elsewhere.

Good riddance.

Elon Musk has spectacularly managed to turned Twitter into even more of a right-wing echo chamber than it used to be before he bought it.

While I'm sure there's many Acaeum members who welcome that political bent and will stay on Twitter (one in particular springs to mind), the fact of the matter is that associating your business or website with Twitter's new form suggests to regular people that you agree with it.

Normally I stay far away from political crap, especially on this site, but WTF are you talking about when you say "...turned Twitter even more of a right-wing echo chamber than it used to be before he bought it.".  I have never used Twitter and could care less if it dissolved tomorrow.  However, Twitter was never right leaning.  Ever.

I don't use Twatter, and rarely use Wastebook or any other "look at me!" platform. I'm even thinking of ditching StinkedIn; it used to be an IT geek platform, but it has devolved into just another social media site.

Agreed.  I’ve never liked the taste of my own bath water, so I stay as far away from those echo chambers as possible.

The amount of damage they have done to the world is incalculable.

I can calculate it: log10 of any idea X Twitter = the idea stripped of all substance, & reduced to a street-corner insult. Thus proving the lack of worth of the human soul, revealing it as a mistake of creation. The blue bird shall defeat the white bird they call the Christ.
