Those prices are truly bizarre.

Did anyone every play Immortal Rules? I actually played and used the Companion Set, but never got to Masters and Immortal Rules.

I bought them and never played them, but now selling them is starting to appear attractive!

I still have my original box set which is still sealed.  My intention was to play it, but my group (at the time) never made it that far and I just kept it on my shelf until I was finally ready to unwrap it, lol.  35ish years later, lol ...nice display piece next to my more recently purchased "player's copy"

I've used material from all of the sets.  It's pretty good, but meant for higher level parties of course.

The reason these sell for so much is that they are quite rare, especially in decent condition.  The sets are flimsy and very susceptible to damage.  Many copies that were sold were already dented and dinged at the stores.

I remember people looking askance at the Immortals set, because it seemed like a clumsy attempt to combine fantasy with superheroes. We didn't know about the history of Arneson's Blackmoor, or how it related to S3 Expedition to the Barrier Peaks.

Two people, one of whom has 5 Feedback, drove the $526 Immortals box above the $170 mark. It is entirely possible that bidder won't pay.

I think you are referring to this one...

It is in gorgeous shape, but not at that price point. Crazy Train indeed.  I have noticed quite a pull back in shrink prices.  I think however it is due to many of them having quality issues.  Thoughts?

I think more people prefer copies they can read first, especially new collectors. Also, and I say this just as mho, I think people are going to want graded copies second; which means it has to be open. Shrink is neat, but it doesn't really mean all that much. Maybe if the items appears to be mint with a neat price tag, but if its not truly mint, its just "different." Shrink is value add but not value. Reading, Quality, then differentiation would be my guess for price.

tldr: New collectors want to read items. A very small few are starting to buy to grade, and this will grow. Shrink is just shrink collecting.

Agreed.  Personally, I collect to remember and appreciate.  Of course there's different strokes for different folks, but paying 3-5x more for a book that I can never flip through feels wrong to me.
