I'll be there.

I will be primarily there to help out with a new interactive electronic game experience, called Starship Horizons, but I will have some downtime to go to the auctions, check out the exhibit hall, and do some other things as well.

Looking forward to catching up with friends and possibly meeting some new Acaeum members.

I just googled Starship horizons, and that looks pretty cool.

Do you think you could give us a report back afterwards over how a play session went?

Sure.

It's off-topic, but here's a link with a bit of detail on what it entails:

https://www.starshiphorizons.com/adventures/

It's listed under Gen Con events.

I will often be at the auction volunteering. Less often I will be at the Games Plus booth in the dealer hall. I hope that Doug and any other Acaeumites come by and say hi. I assume I will see the Burntwire Brothers there and hopefully Martin Britt as well. Bracton, Blackmoor and macteets will definitely be there.

After my last GenCon, the auction folks refused to return my property (Hi-value collectibles).

I won't return unless they promise in writing not to take my stuff.

8O  Really? What stuff? I assume we’re not talking about trophy hunters pocketing a badge or a pen here, but, “Er. Where’s my bag gone?”

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

That's a shame.  It would be good to see you there.

We will be there. Probably spend most time at the auction but will walk the floor a few times, eat some good food, and drink a few craft beers. Hope to see everyone (including you Frank, miss seeing you at the cons).

Happy gaming,
Shawn

I’ll be working at the auction with Stratochamp. My son will also be there.

It seems that eBay has arrived at GenCon.

When I was involved with the auction, I urged the management to expand into internet technology -- crucial to retaining dominance in combination with the unique face-to-face action.

But they didn't. Instead, the auction procedures were modified to make it easier on the staff and harder on the sellers.

Now, with eBay as a competitor, the GenCon auction as we knew it (for 50+ years!) will change, for better or worse.

My friends Dave & Gary made a quantum leap in entertainment. Remember them.

Likewise, but with a family to provide for, it would be a supremely selfish indulgence.

Haven't been since 2014(! time flies when you're tending to little monkeys).

Did a few Online events this year.  Fairly good experience.  Not quite as good as the in-person experience, but worthwhile - and much, much cheaper and more convenient.

Interesting

Anyone try this and see how it went?

Didn't try it, but it was a rather impressive booth.
