This belt buckle looks like it could be a modern reproduction, which has been made to look old.

It's becoming difficult to trust any belt buckles being sold, without some provenance to support them.

Definitely a modern repro; wrong belt loop.

I agree, I think this one is fake.  Aside from the back loop, the quality of it doesn't look correct and the edging around the sides doesn't match, etc.

I've sold a few buckles in recent years (and had the Strahd "prototype" one up for a while) but they have sold for under $2k each - it would have to be something very special to be in that 6 figure range.

If these start selling regularly above $1K there will be a factory producing them for $40 a pop provided you buy 10+ on Alibaba.com

Here are a couple of pics.

The general consensus is that this particular belt buckle wasn't produced with the straight loop, only the modern counterfeits are.  This could be amended, if anyone could verify that they have an authentic belt buckle, like this one, with a straight loop.

There are other tell-tale signs, but the counterfeiters have gotten better with their reproductions in recent years.

Well, they've improved on the casting.  Last time, we were able to ultimately tell these were fakes based on the "post" part that goes into the belt hole.  Very detailed flower on the top and leaves going from the buckle onto the base.  Looks like they've fixed that.
