Hi All,

First up: i am doing this to own - will probably never sell my stuff.

For some things, the price is beyond what i think is fair value for hte moment but i am not convinced enough in a drop that I will wait indefinitely to buy.

For such items, box sets in particular, I am looking at buying the 'parts' over time.

Does anyone have any experience with such things? Usually, the box is the very valuable part right because its the bit that gets damaged (leaving the books to be sold often without the box) correct?

As an example, for something like this:

** expired/removed eBay auction **


The whole thing I'd be happy to pay $200-250 (say) perhaps more. What budget share should I allocate to something that is missing 1/4 key books and the box? 40% value of the full?

Hope everyone is doing well, looking forward to their vaccines (or getting them already!) and perhaps maybe a game of in person D&D is in our futures!

When one or more important components are missing from a set, it usually depresses the value significantly.  That would be the case here.  The only people that would be interested are those that are looking for parts.  Expect the final value to be around 25-50% of the original, especially with the box missing.

There's no hard-and-fast rule on this pricing, as it only takes two determined bidders that really need some of the pieces to complete, or upgrade their set, to inflate the sale price.

Some sellers can turn this into a profit-making opportunity by selling the individual pieces.  It can be a lot of effort, but can work quite well when buyer's are just looking for one or two components.

Thanks, this makes a lot of sense to me.

As I'm new this feels like a deep pool to jump into. Especially compared to the ebay sold//acaeum prices that you can look at for plain/vanilla deals
