So, a F-115R set with sealed dice just went for over 2k. The box was not mint.

It got me thinking again... An Alpha Black Lotus from Magic the Gathering hit 5k, I think, around 2009. In 2014, a gem mint was expected to get around 30k. The last gem mint went for close to 300k.

There were only 1100 of these cards were printed, many are worn or gone.

So, my question. Who thinks DnD items are going there? Why, or why not? By "there," I mean up 40x, 50x or 60x current cost.

I have been saying for years why shouldn't the prices for super-rare TSR items not be worth much more. Comic books pale in comparison to RPG's. You can't play a comic book. Comic books just had a 35 year head start. However I'm still not sure my NM 1st print brown box will ever be bought by Nick Cage for $2 million (actually I know it won't because it will never be for sale) but much higher prices than we see now? Absolutely I think that's possible. I'm just glad I've been doing this for 40 years.

But the price for that Holmes box with a blank box bottom that is (pointedly) not in original shrink surprises me. Does the buyer not realize that without the shrink wrap any blank TSR box bottom could have been substituted for it? So if they were buying that just to have a 1st print...that is a big jump up for one of those. Meanwhile I was laughed at when I bought Brian Blume's True 1st print Holmes box (in original shrink) for $500 about 10 years ago at Gencon.
