This shrink is wrong, right? Wasn't early shrink loose baggy and sort of pathetic? Followed by constricting shrink that wrinkled modules? I don't think they got it right till S3 where the shrink got brittle that it was decent. It wasn't good shrink until D1-D2, right?

Either way, an early print in that condition looks to be worth the starting price even without the shrink wrap.  I've seen a few later prints that were sold by reliable sellers with "good" shrink (that we're deemed to be original factory).

96.33% sure that is original shrink. If someone were going to fakeshrink it, they wouldn't wear down one corner and split it in what looks to be the typical corner-split shrink.

Maybe some others can chime in here -- I don't remember seeing tight shrink like this on a 1970's TSR product.  This may be an *old* re-shrink job, as the shrinkwrap definitely has aged.

Looks like a classic reshrink job to me. That seam down the right looks especially wrong. The ones I've seen (owned) have baggy ("bubbly") shrink. I'm not certain but I think later shrink issues had an h-seam. This looks like neither.

I don't know about you guys, but I have a really hard time being 100% comfortable that a shrink wrapped item is in its original factory condition.  If there's a chain store price tag (i.e. Kaybee, Toys-R-Us, etc...), then I feel more comfortable - otherwise, it feels like I'm always guessing.

One thing I started to do though is really study the front, back, and spine of the module.  If the paper appears "factory" clean and free from oil or dirt, the colors are "factory" vibrant, and the spine isn't worn at all, then I'm good to go.  After all, I'm interested in shrink because I want a pristine/new module - not because I like the feel of 40 year old plastic ;).

Just my opinion, I think that is game store reshrink that was done a long, long time ago.

Edit: I should say "my gut feeling"

This seller also has/had a shrink copy of A3 with a $50 BIN that I was considering until I noticed quite a bit of spine creasing.

That was enough for me to wave off purchasing since I hadn't seen spine creasing on an original shrink item before.  Can't imagine this one is original shrink either.

But, as noted above it is a nice early copy at the current price.

I remember when Elf was a class.

Here's a nice example of that sweet 70's shrink:

Back in the early 80's I worked in a record store and we had a shrink stattion to re-shrink records. It was simply a dispenser for the plastic wrap that had a cutter and a hot air blower that would shrink the plastic. It made the wrap very tight with a single seam where the two cut ends would melt together. When you see old shrink wrap like this then it was probably done in this process. Cheap machine shrink produced a lot of loose baggy shrink. TSR later used a process with a more brittle and stiff plastic that left a fold across the middle back of the module. There were a lot of inconsistencies with the production of modules and they may have hand shrunk some themselves at TSR but im always leery of modules that look to have been done with the hot air blower method.

Yep.  The seams are usually what scream to me, "re-shrink", for just that reason: the hairdryer method of sealing the shrink.

I could certainly agree with it being a reshrink BITD; I thought he meant the SELLER reshrinked it.
I've never really understood the obsession with shrinkwrap. Kinda similar to being married to a virgin for life, no?

It is an idealized thing in the pursuit of perfection for a collector, profit for a seller. For a player it is about getting all the components. In wargaming shrink is desirable because there can be so many damn components but it is more an end use purchase meant to be played and most games in shrink dont command ridiculous prices
