Spotted this in an old newspaper photo from 1983. What is with the border on the LBBs? Is this a known print variant?

Also, is it just me, or does the Blackmoor to the left look like it has the stacked TSR logo? (see my other post asking about a 1983 supplement reissue)

There are no such variants for the 3 volumes of the white box. They are likely books built just to shoot the picture.

This is a newspaper article with a photo of someone collection in 1983. The photographer just laid out the books on someone's couch in their house and snapped the photo.

These were not created just for the photo.

It also does not appear to be a blacking just the three LBB, you can see the pages behind the cover with the boarder.

The person probably just put black electrical tape(or some other type) around the edges and corners to protect them. I've seen people do this in the past.
