This was also just posted in the Random Thoughts thread.  I just got done reading it and was going to post there, but I'll say this here instead.

Reading it, when you cut through it all is sad tale and it does not really reflect well on anyone. I've read other places that Gail perhaps has some mental health issues and there's nothing in that article that makes think it's not true.  I say that not to be cruel or mean spirited at all, I feel sorry for her in a lot of ways, but it just seems evident that she's battling demons that in many cases don't exist. As a result, she has a lot of self-inflicted wounds because of those battles.  I mean, she brought a off duty cop for protection to Gary's wake because she's was afraid her step-children were just going to physically attack her?  Wow. That speaks volumes in a lot of ways, but the IMO one of that major underlying takeaways from that is that there were definite and obvious issues among the family long before Gary passed away.

On the other hand, that's not to say that some of those demons are very real, too. The other real takeaway that I got from the article is that the Gygax estate is likely inevitably doomed and it's a direct result of $$$. There does not seem to be any "heroes" in this story. And that's really a shame. Gary deserves so much better.

Oh and I have no idea who that Erik Tenkar guy is, but man, does he seem like a raging and delusional toolbag or what?

That about sums up my thoughts too. Explains why TLG had the license revoked, with a much bigger deal in play. Unfortunate for gamers & fans.  The family story, again, unfortunate and sad on a personal level.  And Tenkar seems a bit off his rocker.

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

I disagree.

Although his comments were not appropriate at that time, his frustrations (and regular posting) have been consistent with the lack of progress with the Gygax Memorial.

It's been how many years now, and hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised for this memorial.

All due respect, but if the story as presented is correct, not only are his comments way over the line, but he's delusional. Fans are certainly allowed to be frustrated, but calling her nasty names on the internet accomplishes nothing.  If he has a financial stake, pursue it legally, but portending to be the protector of Gygax's legacy when he's nothing more than an angry/frustrated fan is the height of having delusions of grandeur.

I don't know the guy from anyone, but he is no more the protector of the Gygax legacy than me or my next door neighbor.

That's not to say there's not some real and serious issues that need dealt with, but random fans making fictional proclamations isn't helping anyone or the situation itself. This situation is screaming for adults in the room who are not trying to make bank off a terrible and deteriorating situation. And right now, based on the article there doesn't seem to be any.

So the guy who refused to be interviewed for the article is not only complaining about the article not getting his take, but is also now also proclaiming himself to be a "victim" as a result? One thing is for sure, Gail is not the only one in this story who has obviously mental health issues. Jesus, this is even worse than I ever imagined.

And the Tenkar Guy refutes some of the original article, trying to nail the reporter as irresponsible. Then finds someone backs up Gails comments with screenshots and he backs off, putting his hands up to admitting what she'd said was true.

For me, that throws all his credibility to the wind.

But as you say bclarkie, this is a mess...

And this is why I tend not to do the whole blog thing. I'll pop by and visit from time to time on a few, but I usually miss out on most of the drama. For instance, I had no idea who the "Zak S" guy was until a crapstorm happened and people started dropping the name on some boards. So I went and checked it out, and found myself underwhelmed, and rather pleased to have missed him entirely. Watching other people play D&D ain't my thing. And being porn stars wasn't going to get me to start either. Could care less.

In all likelihood, the lawsuit has transformed itself into something that appears innocuous, like a tea kettle or a shovel. Watch out, Gail, it could transform back at any time!

I saw this in Facebook:

PUBLIC NOTICE
Posted October 30, 2019
Posted by Robert J. Kuntz, Responsible Party
This is a Public Notice to Private and Public RPG/Game Collectors, to all Game Companies, to RPG Historians, Film Industry Companies and all and Other.

That the Gygax Estate and their agents (past or present) have had repeated demands of them made by the Estate of Robert J. Kuntz to return Mr. Kuntz’s physical property held by the former. That to date the Gygax Estate refuses to comply with this request that was originated May 18, 2018.

That there is a substantiated rumor that the Gygax Estate has moved to sell all of its physical literary estate properties and that at least one major collector has been contacted regarding purchasing of same.

That the physical property of Robert J. Kuntz, a stolen property, may be part of this transaction and that Mr. Kuntz is now effectively and publicly warning those enumerated in paragraph one, above, of these circumstances.
That the matter of a prior pending civil lawsuit by Robert J. Kuntz against the Gygax Estate regarding the return of said properties is by his legal representatives:

Kravit ▪ Hovel & Krawczyk, s.c.
825 N. Jefferson, Milwaukee, WI 53202-3737

Has been transferred for review for actionable and prosecutable felonies to the Walworth County District Attorney, 1800 County Trunk NN, Elkhorn, WI 53121, this to pursue Class G Theft felony prosecution ( § 939.50(3)(g).)

against the Gygax Estate and all and others that may be implicated in the sale or receiving of Robert J. Kuntz’s property as enumerated below.

That Robert J. Kuntz is also pursuing through counsel additional felony theft and/or fraud charges associated with the Gygax Estate’s illegal duplication of his physical and literary IP and transfer of it by the Gygax Estate to Tom DeSanto in 2016 for the express purpose of developing it for monetary gain.

That, in due course, Tom DeSanto was made aware that this was not the Gygax Estate property (as well as other properties that were claimed by the Gygax Estate that were not theirs) which, in part, caused suit to be filed against the Gygax Estate by Tom DeSanto, in part and in case 1, for fraud (see above images). Agreements between Mr. DeSanto (as a victim of the Gygax Estate’s fraudulent activities) and Robert Kuntz have been reached and he is not involved, at all, in the pending criminal/civil/or other legal charges aforementioned and that are now being forwarded.

Would be nice if Stormberg would clarify this.

So do we know who's making this buy offer?  When they say "Major Collector" in a legal tone like this, I wonder what they mean.  Personally I'm thinking that's not just some private individual who collects, like us here.  I'm thinking an organization, say, the Strong Museum or some place like that maybe?  Or that guy who owns Gen Con now?

I mean - I suppose it COULD be just some very well off  dude out there.  But for Gary's private stash we're probably talking a decent chunk of money and that makes me think even more it's probably some organization or museum.

Also wonder what part of that collection belongs to Mr. Kuntz.
