On the Basic Set Foreign Editions page there is a picture of a red book with an anime girl on the cover and the following description:

Features radically different cover art (anime-style) from the U.S. Eighth print, which we believe it otherwise mirrors.

The book was published in November 1987 by Shiwa, 2 years after the company had published a translation of the Mentzer rules. It is 48 pages long. It isn't a translation of Moldvay and it doesn't even appear to be a rulebook, at least not a complete one.

The beginning discusses the 7 player options: cleric, fighter, magic user, thief, dwarf, elf, and halfling. There are pictures of the male versions of each. There is a flow chart to help a player choose one of the 7 player options. Then there is a "shopping catalog" which matches the equipment list in Mentzer. On the shopping catalog page are pictures of the female versions of the 7 player options. The female dwarf has a mustache but no beard. The shopping catalog is following by 4 pages of pictures of weapons and other equipment.

There is a "sample scenario" dungeon with 10 keyed rooms. There is a history of the Dungeons & Dragons product line and a catalog of the modules Shiwa has translated. There is a flow chart to help a customer choose a module: B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, BSOLO, or M1.

There are six pages of pictures of monsters—no stat blocks—organized by size: small, medium, and large. Here is the Gargoyle and "Lust Monster".

Really it is supposed to be "rah - su - to ma - n - su - taa" (the Japanese letters above the English word) for rustmonster. However, if another Japanese person read that (which they did) and re-wrote the English word, not knowing how it was translated, then he or she could essentially come up with "lah - su - to .." and think it was supposed to be "lust".

I like my answer better. In lots of ways.

...just to be precise and complete: there is a typo in what we are discussing now... It is written lust monster but it should be written lust monstel.

Yeah, saw your tweet earlier today. Wow. I´m impressed by the multitude of international items that are out there, in some quite interesting variations of the originals.
