The latter is what is colloquaially referred to as D&D 3.0 Edition. The former is referred to as 3.5 Edition. Roughly the same sort of material, but some minor variations. If you like doing a lot of math and enjoy number crunching, then this edition is for you.

I have a different explanation, but pls find confirmation by yourself if i am right or not.
The first one is an auction with a picture of the real book on sale, the second one is an auction where the seller didnt upload any picture so that ebay picked up a "stock photo" which in this case is a veeeery old mock up of the MM cover built on the already released players hb.
It happened to me a similar experience with the oriental adventures for 3E: i used to find two different covers on the auctions but at the end all the sellers confirmed me that the stock photo was not correct...

I stand corrected. I had to pull out my 3.0 and 3.5 MM's to look and that tells you how long it's been since I actually saw them...

Aia, as mentioned by Mrmanowar, it does appear you are correct. You just saved me from purchasing an item I already had in my collection.
