I keep remembering a 1st Edition AD&D module with a small section that is a secret outpost by the Drow who are observing the activities of the local bad guys - I recall one or two rooms with a secret door and observation ports, and a tunnel or trapdoor leading to a secret outdoors/underdark entrance.  If I recall it's from a Greyhawk-based module, not part of the GDQ series.

I've looked through my collection but can not find this section anywhere.

Can anyone point me to the module that contains this section (or am I imagining it?!)?

Thanks, and Happy New Year!

I don't think this is it, but maybe it's the checkpoint from D1 Descent into the Depths of the Earth?
ENCOUNTER AREA D3 wrote:This is a Drow checkpoint with two separate patrol groups, males to the left, females to the right. The males will have 2 pickets out on duty to observe the passage in both directions. Despite rivalry, each will co-operate fully with the other in an intelligent attack and defense pattern. The two groups are detailed below.

That's not it, but thanks Rredmond.  I went through every module this weekend and did not find it. Now thinking maybe it was in Dungeon or Polyhedron - so those are my projects for upcoming weekends.

Damned Drow!!!

There was an underdark-themed preview for Dungeon magazine before it launched, that appeared in Dragon #131 entitled "The Chasm Bridge."  The only other 1e Dragon module that was about Drow that I recall off the top of my head was "Forest of Doom" in Dragon #73.  The two mentioned explicity lin their Dungeon descriptions were:

45         1994 Jan/Feb         ARTIST'S ERRAND, AN         AD&D Spelljammer         06-08         Steve Kurtz         A reigar hires the heroes to retrieve a necklace from a drow pirate named Tanthalyn Rrostar.
54         1995 Jul/Aug         DARK THANE MACBETH         AD&D 2E         09-10         Michael Selinker         The evil drow Macbeth conspires to seize control of the Court of Thanes by murdering Duncan.

but if none of those are it, then you can scan the rest of them more easily via these indices:

- Dragon adventures @ DragonDex - Index of Adventure Modules
- Dungeon adventures @ Dungeon's Adventures (where I pulled the above two entries from via the description keyword "drow")
- Polyhedron index @ http://greyhawkonline.com/grodog/temp/polyindx.zip (you'll have to download it and manually hunt through the PolyIndx.rtf file since there's no web index around I'm aware of, other than the Acaeum one which stops at issue 60 @ Polyhedron Index ; the Poly index file was published by Wizards in the early 2000s sometime, and spans issues 1-118 (which still leaves issues 119-149-ish?? unindexed, unfortunately)

Allan.

These indices are great - never knew they were out there!!

I think I found it in Dungeon Issue #8 - In Defense of the Law" by Carl Sargent - not exactly as I remembered, but it has the plot of a visiting Drow observer . . .
