For the record, Photobucket as of late June no longer permits hotlinking of images on their site, unless you're willing to pay $400 a year for the privilege. I've tried Google Photos, TinyPic, and Imgur, and apparently only TinyPic works on the site. Given that TinyPic is apparently owned by Photobucket, you can bet your last dollar that they will be the next to avoid hotlinking. So, is there something I am missing here as to why Imgur and Google Photos links aren't working here? Or do they work and I'm simply not seeing them for some reason?

It's because most (all?) of these sites don't let you link directly to the image (hotlinking); they point you to an intermediate page which displays the image, so they can control various things like advertisements, who's linking to them, etc.

Putting the images into a free Dropbox account might work.  Follow the instructions here to edit the Dropbox URL. (BTW, Dropbox is awesome, and I recommend a free or paid account for everyone).

DropBox is a four-letter word in the IT compliance field, but it definitely has its uses. I can't imagine the petabytes of storage they must use. In fact, petabytes might be insufficient, there are millions upon millions of SlopBox users. Yottabytes, maybe even WTFabytes.
Hotlinking is terribly insecure, although money is probably the driving factor behind preventing hotlinks.
Foul, the people here laud you on a regular basis, and rightfully so, but let me throw one your way as well. You are always quick to respond to questions and fix problems, and you pretty much let the site members regulate themselves. +1 Powerup to you.

Apparently Imgur allows hotlinking, so long as it's not for commercial purposes. I just found it odd is all, because I know Imgur works as I used them for forum posts before on other sites, but found it strange it wouldn't work here. So I'll take a look at using Dropbox, though given how infrequently I participate here, and given how little I post pics, it may not be worth the effort.

Can you post an example link from Imgur?

There's also Hightail. I'm not sure how similar they are to Dropbox's service for hosting images. Hightail used to be "yousendit" if you remember that service.

Share files and collaborate on creative projects | Hightail

Then there's also box (different from dropbox)

Secure File Sharing, Storage, and Collaboration | Box

I got burned by the photobucket capitulation/extortion attempt. I am now using imageshack via a free 30 day trial. It is pretty slick and fairly cheap after that.

I can't at the moment as I'm not at my computer. I'll get that link to you ASAP.

@FoulFoot: Sorry for being late with that link. Either the forums were fixed to permit the links now, or I entered the link wrong the last time I tried posting one. Anyway, here's a link to a pic: https://i.imgur.com/e6QmHOMl.jpg

And below, the same image wrapped by BBCode.

A bunch of folks are using http://village.photos/ for this purpose.
I haven't heard a complaint yet, and is pretty easy to use.

Just another option.
Be well,
