I have considered buying a b/x companion PDF. I came across a copy on eBay. It's 1600.00 is this a true value of a original or is the seller just hoping to scam a unsuspecting collector?

$1600 for a .pdf?

You can find a better deal, I would think.

And yes I understand this is not a original TSR product it's just one of those novel items I wanted to add to my collection. The reviews are very good. But not 1600.00 good. Very suspicious of this sellers price.

The sale item is a original book. There was a small run available a few years back from the publisher.

Most of us deal in limited-edition or 'antique' paper (antique within the 5 decades of hobby gaming history).

If you've convinced yourself that somebody's computer printout of a modern computer-generated PDF
is somehow 'collectible',
then do as you wish.

Of course I would never pay anything like that for a book.  I was just wanting to know if was really considered that valuable as one of the originals printed for sale or something like that. I also collect vintage star wars toys and there are lots of unique items like prototypes or concept toys that can be quite valuable. Obviously that is not the case here. After searching around I found one for 16.00. The author did print a sizeable run for sale on his site but they were all still done by lulu so a PDF copy ordered thru them would be identical. I can't really use the PDF files. Im deep in Iowa surrounded by corn. Not a print shop within hundreds of miles and I don't do my own printing. I just don't have the tools.  I was just shocked to see a price like  that. And thought there must be something special to justify it. It's amazing what people will do hoping to cheat others. What scum.

Sorry but it could be again a typo of the seller...  Instead of 16.00 he/she entered 1600 (without comma). Has anyone tried to reach the seller to ask confirmation of the value?

I thought the same initially, but the actual price was an auction to start at $1299.99 or a $1699.99 BIN. Appears the seller is persistent, as the item has been relisted over the past month.

I was hoping you were right about the price being a error that appears to have not been the case. I posted a complaint with eBay asking them to look into it. They emailed me a form letter assuring me they contacted the seller and no errors have been made in the listing. It's too bad we couldn't leave a warning for prospective buyers. I have seen it done a few times with certain things. Post a outrageous price on a item that isn't elsewhere on eBay. Then one by one post a inflated price on another auction.  Impulse buyers see the outrageous price next to the inflated price and buy without hesitation because it's a obvious great deal, but it's not. It's a scam of sorts.

Especially if you have a pallet of books that would be only desired by a fanatical group of collectors, and a growing interest among larger and larger groups of newcomers. Something like that would bring a lot of money. He could ask for as much a hundred a copy and get at least one or two hits by uninformed buyers. Nice profit.
