Hello! I recently picked up the attached book from a non-profit book shop. Despite researching it for a bit of time, I can't identify it. It doesn't belong to any of the original D&D white sets, and I can't find a single white book online matching the artwork.

I contacted Acaeum support for help and Scott replied quickly with some great insight. THANKS SCOTT! He wrote "Looks like an unauthorized reprint/remash; I couldn't find any mention anywhere of this being authorized by WotC.  The cover art is from an Erol Otus piece used by the Gygax Memorial Fund, and shows Gygax as the wizard in the middle.  The art was done in 2010, as noted in the upper right, so this was made sometime after that.   Somebody clearly went to some trouble in making this, and since it's obviously not an attempt at counterfeiting a collectible, I'm not sure what the point was. I'd suggest posting this in our forums, see if anyone else has ideas.  It's also possible that it was an authorized product put out by someone as a tribute, and I've simply missed it."

Does anyone know anything about this book? It appears cut/bound professionally. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Apologies for the photos uploading sideways. They were vertical when uploaded but changed for unknown reasons!

Fan made by what I can tell. The cover looks like it is recreated (with the exceptions of the Otus and logo), while the title page looks completely scanned. Dunno what the purpose of adding a bar code is. I could not come up with a match. Does look new. Is it from the reprints?

That's what's really weird about it. It's bound and clean just like a professionally/mass produced book. Given the work to do that I'm sure it's not the only one in circulation. Includes Volume 1 - Men & Magic, Volume 2 - Monsters & Treasure, and Volume 3 - The Underworld & Wilderness Adventures along with 4 blank note pages at the end. The pages are aligned and nothing that I can see makes me think an amateur produced it. Very strange.

...any ref to a pod sysyem like Lulu?  If this has been done not once the easiest and most anonymous way is this channel... Lulu usually writes smtg either at the first or last page.

That's a good idea. I checked the book carefully and there aren't any such markings on/in the book. A search of the UPC on several different databases yields no product association with that code. No idea why someone would put that on there. Interesting mystery.

The cover art on your book is taken from the Erol Otus piece originally found in the 1E AD&D reprints. (See p 127 of the PHB, p 236 of the DMG, p 111 of the MM)
Chances are, you have a very well done, fan-produced rulebook that is not authorized by WotC.

Is there an ISBN? What are the numbers on the bar code? Does it look like a legit UPC?

The book has all 3 volumes (including everything from front to back covers) inside, in order. No ISBNs to be found.

The UPC seemed abnormal - most UPCs I've seen have 12 digits spaced out (like 5 55555 55555 5). This has 13 digits (5 800078 615022). Did some additional digging regarding the extra number - UPCs have 12 numbers and IAN (International Article Numbers, a.k.a. EAN for European Article Numbers) have 13, spaced out exactly like the code on the back of this book.

Still can't find any result for the number and the mystery continues! Cool book regardless. Found for $15 at a non-profit bookstore.

It could easily be one of many illegal books available via private URLs on Lulu or Create Space.  I'm still trying to remember whether or not this was some limited/special edition charity thing around the time of the initial AD&D 1e hardcover reprints from WotC; perhaps Guy Fullerton knows more (pinging....).

I thought Tim Kask had something like this. May want to ask him. I own the cover art, good to hear it was also used in the AD&D reprints and not just the cover to Cheers Gary.

Available now from Die Cast Games: Night of the Black Swords by Allen Hammack (Author of C2-The Ghost Tower of Inverness) with artwork by Jeff Easley and Diesel.

Many thanks to everyone for the insight and research! Despite no lulu markings on this book it seems reasonable that this book is from the same (or similar) build as the one mentioned in the Google+ post. Pretty cool that he was able to get both hardcovers and softcovers manufactured. Much appreciated! Case closed.
