Bribery is indeed quite normal in international business. The way this is written, in this case it would have damaged TSR.

On another note, I might have made a common translation error. They did not sue him for 638 $ and some small change, but for 638,750 $ - german numbers use a full stop to separate the thousands from the hundreds, not a comma, while in the US, you use a comma, right?

Yes, of course. What you have written with a German decimal separator as 638,750 $ should indeed be translated into English as $638.75 -why such a small amount?
