Is there any way to distinguish between 3rd and 4th through 9th prints for Monster Manual II? The website lists "unknown" but does anyone out there have any other knowledge?

Thanks!

I did an exhaustive search myself and couldn't really find anything.

I dont remember seeing any differences or I would have sent them in. I will check again when they come out of storage.

I have seen 10th through 13th prints. But nothing to distinguish 4th through 9th prints. Odd that most other 1E rulebooks have something that distinguishes prints but not the MM II in that range?

No, it mostly fits in with the other contemporary manuals.  TSR didn't start regularly adding printing # information until mid-1987; the identified prints before then is just stuff that we have noted as changed.  There's quite possibly some identifying info for earlier prints if you were to look hard enough... though probably few folks have ten copies of the Monster Manual II to reference.  :)  Alternately, they didn't bother changing anything in the MM2 between 1983-1987; they just cranked out the same book every nine months or so (even with the other manuals, most of the differences we note between printings are pretty minor through the 1980s).

I think that speaks to the tight wallet TSR had then. It's simply cheaper to reprint as is from existing printing plates than make a new negative and plate, plus the reworking of the page spread involved.

Though not by a whole lot considering the money coming in.
