I've been in touch with Dale "Slade" Henson, a former TSR game designer who worked primarily on 2nd Edition AD&D items (Lankhmar and SpellJammer). He's graciously agreed to answer any questions about his time as a designer, so.... Anything that you guys want to know?  :P

I'm always interested to know just in general what is was like to work at TSR in the heyday.

Any stories about Gary?  Who else did he work with there?  Fondest memory?

Hey MadCat!  This sounds like a really neat opportunity.  I'm curious as to how influence Fritz Leiber had himself (I believe he unfortunately died in 1992, so that obviously limited any 2nd Ed. collaboration to only a few years) over AD&D Lankhmar's game design.  Thanks!

I have posed the questions to him, as soon as I get a response, I'll post it here. I'll also ask him if he is interested in becoming a member of the Acaeum or if he already is... (Wow... Wouldn't *that* be embarassing?)

No specific questions, but be interesting to hear any unique stores or anecdotes on the Spelljammer work he did.  I have the entire line of Spelljammer books, one of the more interesting campaign worlds in my opinion. :)

Have now successfully made contact with yet another former TSR employee, Tim Beach! Any questions for Mr. Beach (who, BTW, will be at GenCon next week!)

The more I am researching 2nd Edition products that TSR put out... Maztica is the LEAST of the "WTF?" moments. I mean, seriously, the whole Birthright thing? And, along with Maztica, why Al-Qadim?

Agreed.  It seems that TSR really started to spread the D&D brand thin in the early '80s (trapper keepers, towels, masks, candy, etc...).  They were in full swing when 2nd edition hit in '89.
