Is there a site that has in depth module information for some of the later modules (early to late 80s)? this site and the job done by contributors is outstanding when it comes to the earlier releases

What I mean is this...fold out maps were included with this one, counters or cut-outs were included with this one or that one, NPC or pre-generated cards attached to back cover with this one, etc. etc

for example...i've been going through my modules and I'm checking out the CM5 reading the back of it and whammo! I didn't know it was supposed to have a fold-out map until I actually READ the back of the module.

the detailed info on the dragonlance modules is awesome...check this, check that

my bad on not knowing about CM5 I just have to get another copy that's complete. lol

thanks

This is the site that I use most frequently when trying to determine module content and completeness:

TSR Archive

After several woefully incomplete purchases (missing maps, booklets, counters, etc.), I turned to the dark side and started collecting shrink modules.  :)

Gee, Mrs. Cleaver ... That certainly is a lovely dress.

Besides the three main sites (Acaeum, Tome of Treasures, and the TSR Archive), I use a book from 1998 that sometimes has the book/box components:  The Official Price Guide to Roleplaying Games by Timothy Brown and Tony Lee.  Obviously, the prices are no longer relevant, but many of the parts are listed (not always).

For example, CM5 is listed on page 169 as "32 pages plus map".  I ignored the $2.00 price however.  ;-)

Tome of Treasures, as mentioned above, is my usual go-to for this.  www.waynesbooks.com also has information like this.

This is what I miss from the Acaeum wiki. We should just start something new. Hell, we could do a blog if no website was available.

For modules, the best sites that I've found are -
TSR Archives
http://tsr.bothgunsblazing.com/index.htm
RPG Net (this one is hit or miss):
http://www.rpg.net/

For box sets, the best sites that I've found are:
TSR Archives

RPG Geek

It's extremely gratifying to see that the TSR Archive is still considered relevant after all this time.  Now that the kids are getting older (four teenagers!) and I have a little bit more free time, I've been putting some serious consideration into revising and expanding it.  Honestly, I've been wondering if it would even be worth the time and effort but it seems like maybe it's still a useful tool.  No promises or anything, but definitely looking in to it.

My RPG collecting database site (in development) will hopefully include the separate parts as check boxes when you add your collectible, letting you know if it's incomplete or not.  I'll need all the resources in print and on the internet to verify the complete list of components per item.

I'm miles away from completing this project, after all, I can only juggle so many flaming chainsaws at once.  Do you hear that, cdenham?  ;-)

Got it - send more motivational flaming chainsaws!! (Although that seems a bit more Warhammer than D&D, I'll see what I can come up with.  :D )

That would be great, Adrian.  Perhaps you and throwi could collaborate together!

I had started toying with the idea of a detailed component list way back when (see here for example) but I never got very far in to it.  I had also started progress on pages for Star Frontiers, Gamma World, Top Secret and Boot Hill, though some of those collections still have a fair amount of holes in them.  Throwi's idea sounds amazing... I'd love to see that take shape and would be happy to contribute any info that I have.

Thanks Blackdougal,

My application is designed primarily to capture book collections.  Besides capturing your collection details (number, price paid, approximate worth, etc.), it also stores information about illustrators, authors, unique identifiers, creatures (number and types), party size, levels, etc...  I haven't thought about delving into the sublists as you've mentioned.  Searching the database for other information as you suggest is intriguing but outside the initial scope of work.  Plus, I believe there are other spell list databases out there already...?

It's currently loaded with just a handful of books for testing purposes, and I haven't written any of the PHP front end code yet.  All the database table designs and some of the procedural code is done.  It's just a matter of getting the time to work on it, I have many other items on the check list before it, including a fifteen year project hopefully coming to an end this year.

Not a lot new to add to this thread, aside from my thanks to those folks who put this information together!

TSR Archive for modules and box sets, especially for info on contents, maps, etc.

Waynes Books for other TSR and 80s rpg publishers... again, also great for contents, plus putting checklists together to complete runs & product lines

Tome of Treasures, terrific for info on older and obscure items.  If I've never heard of it, I'll check Tot... and if it's not listed, I'm not interested

And, um, Acaeum of course for printing info and great conversation :)

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

The Acaeum wiki was heading in this direction.

Unfortunately, it has not been operational for some time.  :(

For what it's worth, I'm willing to attempt to re-start the Wiki, if the interest is there.  I can install the newest version of the Wikimedia software, and give whomever admin-level access.  The wiki would then need to be rebuilt... perhaps not completely from scratch, as the old, damaged wiki can be viewed here:

The Acaeum Wiki

Some of the text and info can be cut-and-pasted out of there.  I should be able to write a php script to strip out some of the garbage, which would help somewhat.  Beyond that, I don't have the time (unfortunately) to assist with the drudgery of re-entering data.  Perhaps with a large enough staff of volunteers, it could be worked out.

Let me know if anyone's interested in giving this a shot.

Former programmer, former Network Admin, well... Former lot of things in IT. Just got burned out so now I'm a Medical Assistant. Bottom line, I'd be willing to put my effort into it. I've been compiling an Excel spreadsheet of everything I can get my hands on from 1st, 2nd and 3rd Editions including print runs, contents, etc. It's "finished" as far as the research part goes, now I'm working on reformatting it so it works better if I export it to Access. Tried it once before and it was a nightmare. Reworking the data sets and will try it again. Throwi has been offering insight as well. (Thanks Thom!)

Willing to assist in some way, although my skill set is more in line with database administrator, PL/SQL and PHP developer(OPAL stack) - but I know how to get at and cleanup data.  Although a painful task, with enough help we may be able to get through it.
