Welcome to the 8th Annual North Texas RPG Convention! The NTRPG Con focuses on old-school Dungeons & Dragons gaming (mainly OD&D, 1E, 2E, or Basic/Expert) as well as any pre-2000 type of RPG produced by the classic gaming companies of the 70s and 80s (TSR, Chaosium, FGU, FASA, GDW, etc). We also support retro-clone or simulacrum type gaming that copies the old style of RPGs (Swords & Wizardry and others), and newer versions of some classic RPGs (D&D 5E, for example).  All RPG games are welcome at the Con, but we do not schedule card or board games except in special circumstances...unlike most other cons we are primarily old school RPG focused! Our sponsors this year so far are Frog God Games and Tenkar's Tavern. We still have places for several more full and limited sponsorships.

Our convention dates are: Thursday June 2, 2016 @ 9am until Sunday June 5, 20146 @ 6pm. You can register for the convention now at Ntrpgcon.com (due to the site restructuring you will have to re-register for the site). Registration for events begins at 12:01 am April 15th, so please make sure you have registered and paid your fees beforehand at the ntrpgcon.com site! We will be adding events during the next few months in a variety of games, so check back often to see what new games have popped up on the schedule. Plus, we have Early Registration deals going now.

Early bird registration starts now through November 30th and will be $55.00 for the entire four day weekend. After that, standard registration is $65.
Late registration will be from May 1, 2016 through May 15, 2016 and will be $75.00, as will be the fee for walkups at the Con. Single day tickets for each day are also available from $25 to $30 daily.
Registration fees are non-refundable.

This is our fourth year at the DFW South Marriott, and again we will have the ENTIRE hotel (including all meeting rooms) for the length of the con, from Wed night onwards!  This is a great hotel with lots of space for all sorts of gaming activities (we have the entire grand ballroom, atrium and all boardrooms, accommodating over 30 tables of gaming), it is only a couple of minutes south of DFW airport and easily reached by shuttle. This venue also features a full restaurant and bar, as well as being right in the center of an area with many restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance.

We have many, many confirmed special guests from the early days of the hobby attending in 2016:  Bob Bledsaw Jr, Jason Braun, Chris Clark, David 'Zeb' Cook, Michael Curtis, Darlene, Jeff Dee, Matt Finch, Jeff Grubb, Allen Hammack, Kevin Hendryx, Jennell Jaquays, Timothy Kask, Doug Kovacs, David 'Diesel' LaForce, Steve Marsh, Frank Mentzer, Erol Otus, Steve Perrin, Merle Rasmussen, Lawrence Schick, Dr. Dennis Sustare, Bill Webb, and Steve Winter. For the 2nd year we will have special "Friends of the Con" guests, these are people who have significantly contributed to the success of the con and continue to support the con by their presence and contributions to the hobby.  This year two individuals who have run games, vendor booths, and have gotten the word out far and wide about NTRPG Con are honored, Jon "Tacojon" Hershberger and Mike "Sieg" Stewart!  

This year games include AD&D 1E and 2E, D&D 5th Edition, Gamma World, Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperboria, Top Secret, Metamorphosis Alpha, Swords & Wizardry, OD&D, Basic D&D, GURPS, Traveller, Tunnels & Trolls, Boot Hill, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Castles & Crusades, Cavemaster, Classic Battletech, and many more! Included will be our 7th annual Mythrus Tower game run by Matt Finch and Bill Webb; Also this year we will feature our 6th annual chariot racing classic Circus Maximus (trophy awarded); classic man-to-man combat game Gladiator (trophy awarded), and more. Raffle, Silent Auction and Live Auction will again be back, with lots of prizes and goodies. Another art panel is being planned, and back for another trip into the bizarre is the Weird yet Sexy Midnight Auction, hosted by Badmike and Lloyd Metcalf and co-hosted by that infernal jokester Satan....if you remember last year there were some surprises, this year promises to turn the heat up even hotter....or whatever.

We will again be having a special "Pre Con Get-it-On" Wed night June 1st in the atrium, some scheduled games but hopefully lots of pickup games. This is the time to run board games or anything else you might want before the "real" con gets started.

Besides Garycon, this is the premier old school style convention in the country with more classic gaming available than any other con in the south, run by some of the giants of the industry.  NTRPG Con has quickly become the best place in the south to meet and game with the past icons of the industry that typically only attend conventions in the midwest or northeast.   Last year we sold out our 300 pre-regs (raised this year to 350) and we anticipate selling out again. Don't wait until the last minute because depending on space available we may or may not take walkups!

I do NOT think our tables are too cheap and here is why

At Most Cons when you buy a table, you get a badge for the Con in the table price, but at our Con you MUST buy a badge first before you are allowed to buy a table.

Also, I think most Cons give you 2 tables for your space... (I don't attend Cons so I can be very wrong here)

At our Con, the price to have a space with 2 tables is as follows:

Early Bird:
Con Badge - $50.00
Vendor Space - $60.00
Extra Table - $60.00

TTL - $170.00

Normal Pricing:
Con Badge - $65.00
Vendor Space - $75.00
Extra Table - $60.00

TTL - $200.00


Late Registration:
Con Badge - $75.00
Vendor Space - $90.00
Extra Table - $60.00

TTL - $225.00


So I don't think the table pricing is bad for the size of our Con. We only have 300~350 in attendance, so I think it's a fair price for Vendor Space... besides, if it's too expensive, the smaller one man publisher like Ben Burns, or LLoyd Metcalf won't buy a table.... gotta think about the little guys too

Well I can't speak for all vendors, but I think that NTX's prices are reasonable.  I don't think of them as a bargain, except if you compare them to GenCon (which I consider hideously over-priced and clearly not worth it).

From my own experience as a small vendor with a limited selection of merchandise, and observing like vendors, I'm not so sure about the first part. You only have a few hundred potential customers, and a large portion of them are folks like me who already have most of what they want, aren't impulsive buyers, and are RPG producers rather than purely RPG consumers.

A good year for my company is when I have sales that equal or exceed the ticket + vendor price, which still ends up being a loss once you factor in the cost of goods sold. Other small vendors may have higher sales, but I bet they have much higher costs.

I don't think it is because the price is so great, but because the Con is so great. It is the result of having a limited size + more DIYers like me who start up their own RPG company looking for vending space + an increasing core of NTRPGCon-goers.

NTRPGCon is a great Con, and I'm happy to attend and support it. If the prices were much higher, I'd either have to make an arrangement with another vendor, or come as a regular attendee.

Badmike's line about most vendors making their money back on their first sale I can only assume is a typo.

I will have a pdf OSR rewrite of City of the Revenant for Bad Mike to release at the con (100% to the con, 0% to the author, but will be revised and released by a publisher after the con if there is interest).  I'll also be running that as one of my two events at the con.

I spent a lot of time on it this week-end.  My father-in-law went off of dialysis following a stroke, so we flew out, but there wasn't much for me to do except hold my wife's hand from time to time.

I'll have actual numbered, signed hard copies for those at my table as well as for those who provided me with .pdfs to help me this time around.
