Hey all,

Anyone from the European Acaeum crew going to Lucca Games to say hi to Frank ?

I'm thinking of being there thursday or friday.

Yesterday I was in Lucca.
With my sister, we had the honour to meet Frank and be with him for ... I can't say a "game session" ... a moment with a long time friend I've met yesterday for the first time.
It was ... ineffabile ... beyond words.

What I feel is in my soul ... But I want to thank Frank for everything.

Giorgio

Ps it was the first time my sister played D&D ... with DM Frank Mentzer ... Nothing else to say
Pps same post on Dragonsfoot

... And thou, Melkor, shalt see that no theme may be played that hath not its uttermost source in me, nor can any alter the music in my despite ...

Thanks to Radagast, xRalphx, Alexander, superkella, and the many others who braved the hordes at Lucca Comics & Games 2014.
A new attendance record btw, and huge on the Games side, vs the Comics/Media groups. #luccacg14

Home safe late last night (obviously). The return is always the worst -- a 24-hours-of-travel day (tho with naps on the planes). Wearing, at my age, but doable.

More later. ;> but highlights:

1. I'll Be Back (to Lucca)
2. Tentatively scheduled to be a guest at Naples Comics & Games, end of April 2015. Confirmation expected soon.

Impressions of a Gamer (and Acaeum member/collector)
.

Lucca C&G includes comics, media/film, computerized games, and tabletop.

Preliminary data 2014:

250k paid daily gate (not Uniques)
150k+ est. visitors near convention areas*
400k+ total

I was an eddy in a small bay.

Two observations:

1. This is Woodstock size.
2. This is Woodstock effect: sizeable paid gate upfactored by unpaids/visitors.

(Woodstock blazed new ground in chaos; this was run by pros and firmly controlled. 95+ % of attendees were polite and considerate.)

Please note: In several analyses, Lucca is now the #2 con globally (after Tokyo).
.

Confession: I'd heard of it, but didn't pay any attention. The true level of magnitude wasn't emphasized in the Western PR (or so it seems to me).

fwiw. I'm impressed, and thoughtful. The implications for our hobby are potentially huge.

* Lucca is a walled medieval city. Mostly new insides, 3-4 star civilized, plus normal neighborhoods. No fees to enter and stroll and shop... or in this case, go all-out with CosPlay In The Streets, as thousands did. A sight to see.
