Just registered for Gencon (we have early registration).  Went to book a room at the Marriott downtown and got the last suite available  8O , next year we better pre-register on the first day of early registration so we can get the hotel we want with no issues.

Good luck to all who must register and get a hotel on the 26th, it will be legendary attendance this year for sure  :)

It is going to be packed this year, the exhibit hall is already sold out even after the expansion

I went ahead and checked all the hotels, just seeing if anybody had any rooms available for the time frame. The JW Marriott had some rooms for $389 a night so I grabbed one. I hope I didn't get lied to or something lol. I suppose I should call them to verify maybe? At any rate, I (hopefully) grabbed my room so I am guaranteed going. I want to be there for the 40th anniversary of D&D. Can't wait.

Thousands of rooms are set aside for Gencon attendees.  After you get your pass (on the 26th) they will give a hotel code that will give you reduced rates and access to all the hotels at once, you can pick up a room at a significant discount with the code.

Regular preregistration opens on Sunday.  Housing registration opens at noon Eastern time on Tuesday (you have to preregister first, and then use the housing code you receive to get a room in the Gen Con block).

Yes I heard it filled up in 3 hours  8O   last year it took until march 18th to be fully booked.  Also pre registration was up by 200% this year, it will be a very busy year at Gencon this summer.

There seems to be a real excitement in the city this year leading up to Gencon.  Many business leaders think this will be a breakout year in terms of tourists spending money in the city during the con.  I really hope it's a great year.

Three hours? Every hotel within walking distance (the city proper pretty much) was filled when I finally got through the queue in 45 minutes. The only available rules were 10+ miles away. I booked my room through one of the hotel's websites, but I paid double money for the room. Not too bad since I'm going with three other people, but still expensive. Like $450 a night.  :?

It's one of the newest hotels in downtown Indy.  JW Marriott's are pretty high-end and generally very highly regarded.  Several Acaeum members (myself included) stayed there the first year they opened.  Frankly, it was a bit of a disappointment, though it may have been attributable to being a new hotel.  I haven't stayed there since then, but largely because of another knock against it -- it's on the far end of the convention center from the main Gen Con locations (like the auction and dealer hall) and I got tired of walking.

Oh no, walking doesn't bother me. Last time I went, maybe 4 years ago, my friends I went with and I walked pretty much all over the city. The canals and stuff were pretty cool, TBH. So was the fountain thing in the middle of town. Hopefully they got the kinks ironed out and it'll be great this year. I'll be sure and let you know. :)

One day, maybe when I'm old and grey, I'll make it to Gencon.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

I was hoping to get to GenCon this year but it's just not in the cards financially.  My collecting expenditures are higher this year cutting in to travel costs...

I wonder if the 40th anniversary will be celebrated at the Con, or does Wizards even care?

Wizards cares but more importantly Gencon will care.   :D
