1e Re-prints effect on market?

For those in the know, does it seem like the 1e re-prints are having an effect on prices of the originals?

Small sample size here, and I don't make the same effort to move product of some of the more professional sellers that post, but I listed an original 3.5 Players Handbook, Spell Compendium, and Magic item Compendium a little while ago with no bites.

I would have expected them to be easy movers.

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

If they're collectible or otherwise rare 1e, no, no effect worth mentioning. The physical, original item is what's important. For the run of-the-mill 1e stuff (5th print S1 Tomb of Horrors, etc), good luck trying to cover postage.

There may be a decline in interest for OCEs and OD&D with the reprints coming available (and far cheaper than buying them currently) later this year but collectors, as opposed to players, will still be looking for originals so I doubt there will be a huge drop in value... just a smaller market.

I've heard the same story from lots of non-collectors:

Many would rather not deal with preowned originals -- the scribbles, names, blemishes, and especially old food/beverage stains (and praps body fluids) that can accumulate. Reprints for them (tho not necessarily the PDFs; that's a different issue).

Personally, I like seeing the notes, scribbles, and sometimes, the notepaper accidentally left in the book, to see what other players did in their adventures!

Of course, if I'm looking for something truly collectible, that's different. As long as it's complete and a reasonable price, I'll buy it.

These three should be the easiest to move.

1) Depends on how much you were charging and,
2) Shipping from Canada to the US is a bit pricey...
