North Texas RPG Con AD&D Open Tournament

Tournament features a single round session. Thursday evening (7 -- 11), Friday afternoon (1 -- 5) and Saturday morning (8 -- Noon). Optional round Wednesday night! See below.

DM: Bill Barsh
Game title: TM4 Return to the Forbidden City
Game system: AD&D 1st Edition
Number of players: 8
Pregens/Level of characters : 5th to 7th, Pregens provided
World/Setting: Greyhawk
Time needed: 3.5 Hour Time Limit + .5 hour prep. time
Tournament description: Teams will compete to win the third annual NTX AD&D Tournament. Each team will include up to eight players who will use their skills to gain points as they move throughout the scenario.

Color Description: It was perhaps your most successful adventure. The dragon lay dead and his horde in your hands. But as you exited the dragon's lair your group came under attack. A dozen glass jars flew through the air and crashed at you feet. Noxious fumes filled the air and then darkness filled your brain. You awoke where you had fallen and your comrades slowly lifted themselves off the ground. But something was horribly wrong. Gilsonnette, the priestess, lay dead in pool of dried blood. A horrific wound in her back, spattered with black poison, marked the location where a deadly blade penetrated her heart. Slatrak, your party's thief, along with the dragon plunder, was gone. Clearly, Slatrak had betrayed you, but it made little sense. The thief was anything but. He was brave and selfless. Always putting himself in danger and his relationship with Gilsonnette was like that of a married couple -- often bickering but always a faithful friendship. After the funeral, you and your comrades searched for answers. Three years ago, during an exploration of the Forbidden City, Slatrak had found a strange green ring. He has worn it without pause. His demeanor became more distant. But overall, he seemed normal. After months of searching you have finally learned that Slatrak was part of a massive caravan that delved into the jungle on a course to the Forbidden City. Your whole life has been spent searching out lost treasure or solving other people's problems. But now it is time for revenge and time to Return to the Forbidden City.

Event Details: Instead of a two round tournament, the 2013 event will feature a single round. This way you will only have to register for a single time slot. Only sign up for ONE session.

I have decided to come down to Texas on Wednesday afternoon for the convention. Therefore, if enough people want to play in the AD&D Tournament Wednesday night, I will add that option.

You must send me an email to confirm your attendance. I need a total of six players minimum.

All teams will recieve a prize for playing in the tournament. First place gets the grand prize, of course! Prizes TBA.

Wow! Awesome turn out so far! Only four spots left: two on Thursday and two on Saturday morning. Friday is full.

A few people have had some concerns about playing in the tournament. First, playing in a tournament is pretty much like playing at in any AD&D game. The rules are the same. You play the same way with the exception that role-playing is minimal. You play as a group and you score points as a group. That is, as you progress through the adventure, you and your team gains points - it is a group total. The scenario is like most others but there is a definite objective, or set of objectives. Your group moves through the adventure and obstacles, problems, etc., are encountered. You just play. It is not a test on how well you have memorized the monster manual. You don't need to be a "pro" player. You just show up and have some fun. Yeah, there is a time limit and the challenges are, well, challenging. If you have ever read the TSR A-series or C-series, you get the picture.

Thanks to all who have registered so far.

Holy Forgotten City, Batman! Every single seat is taken. That said, I offered an additional round on Wednesday night and Doug has graciously added it to the registration tab:

Con / Game Registration

This event will start around 630 and go the designated four hours. I am going to be very flexible on start time for this slot. We can probably push it to 7 p.m. or so if someone really needs the extra arrival time. Regardless, it will go four hours per tournament rules.

BONUS: I will keep playing until everyone wants to quit beyond the four hour time limit. Note, scoring stops after four hours, regardless.
